Hennessey- Hendog The Jackal: I was feenin for a great Hendog album after I heard the work he put down on compilations. This album did not dissappoint. It was a much harder, more gangster style than I was used to hearing, but his tales of street life and street pimpin were a treat to hear. He still has those freaky tales that  the females as well would like, but it was still different than what I thought it would be. In any case, I was pleasantly suprised.

Mystic- Cuts For Luck and Scars For Freedon: Mystic's spoken intro this album, where she invites the listener to "open up your mind," is an encouraging sign that this no-nonsense female rapper has something going on upstairs. Over dark, moody, heavily atmospheric backing, Mystic delivers raps that take a long, hard look into the gritty realities of urban life without ever descending into thug-life posing or hardened cynicism. The emotional/moral outrage with which Mystic delivers her observations about the difficulties inherent in everyday ghetto life is an indication of her own disillusioned idealism. She speaks not only of the problems between men and women, but also of the children of broken (or nonexistent) relationships, and the victims of street violence. Ultimately, CUTS FOR LUCK finds Mystic attempting to speak for those who generally have no voice.
