I
was born Jan 16 1861, at Taylorsville, Salt Lake County, Utah. My pioneer
parents were Llewellyn Mantle and Catherine Watkins. They came across the
plains in 1851. My school days were spent at Taylorsville School. My home life
was milking cows, herding sheep, helping with the farm work and doing house
work.
I married on 9 Oct 1879 to John Sargeant Jones
in the endowment house in Salt Lake City, Utah by Daniel H. Wells. In the spring of 1880 we moved to St. Charles,
Bear Lake County, Idaho. Three children were born there:

In the spring of 1885 we moved to West Jordan, Salt
Lake City district. My husband went on a mission to the Southern States but on
account of ill health had to return home. Four children were born to us at West Jordan: In 1893 we moved to Kamas, Summit County,
Utah. Four children were born there: My sister Nellie
left me one thousand dollars, which helped me very much. We then moved to Francis, Summit County, Utah. We bought some land and had a house built. I have worked in
the Relief Society, as secretary and teacher for several years. I served on the
school board for twelve years. I have
buried two of my boys one of whom served a mission for two years in the Southern
States. Have always had good friends and neighbors. I have always led an active
life. I am now 78 years old and in good health and able to do
considerable work. I joined the Kamas Daughter of Utah Pioneers and when I
moved back to Francis, I joined the Francis Daughter of Utah Pioneers.( This

is at right, from the Salt Lake TribuneJohn was Sunday School Superintendent for
several years. John was in
the sheep business and failed financially. He became discouraged and deserted
me and our family. At this time I had eleven children, seven boys and four
girls. We were left without a foot of land
or home. We moved back to my old home town of Taylorsville in 190l. Here my
boys got employment.
