Joanna DeVoe unofficially began koshi with "KOSHi iS... TOO COOL FOR SCHOOL" (fall 2003), a 44 page Xeroxed zine of ink on paper illustrations and humorous, biting poetry written in a variety of original handmade fonts. Koshi, the company, officially started the following spring when she saw her one-of-a-kind, hand-illustrated leather bags in the pages of Redbook magazine and on Jennie Garth for the WB's "What I Like About You". In May 2004, she launched iluvkoshi.com, a place to sell her artsy boho-chic handbags and a monthly e-zine designed to continue her bold, girly illustrations and rhythmic pop-commentary. In less than a year, iluvkoshi.com has moved away from the monthly production of the zine, evolving into a full scale web-boutique that specializes in rock & style from indie female designers & musicians.
