Thurfel's Island
|
|
Wandering through town the other night, I decided to take a walk down into the underground caverns where
stories say Thurfel had lived for many years while hiding from everyone to avoid being captured like the rest of
the Council of Ten. Well this night I came accross Lord Thurfel himself, and he was creating various creatures
and speaking to people regarding his plans. I have been there at every appearance he has made, and I notice
how he always changes his story, but Iscikella gets angry if I say that to her..so I don't say anything. She seems
to think he is giving her good information to go on, and she insists on being amazed by most anything he does,
including the Island he took everyone to the other night. The stones that I hadn't the nerve to walk accross
before opened up so that we were able to go, and Lord Thurfel took everyone on a tour of the island, with all of
it's colorful monkeys, crocodiles and crystalline crabs. There was a pyramid of metal, all rusted, and this odd
halfling apprentice by the name of Halfberry. He was afraid of Thurfel, but I guess who wouldn't be..That
reminds me though, the town doesn't really seem to mind that he is going to destroy it anymore. I try to say
something about it as he takes everyone on a tour of his island, but they ignore me. It struck me that Thurfel
could have easily taken us someplace and killed us all but he didn't. I don't understand him...but he is indeed a
bit of a crazy one. I notice that everyone acts different with him around and I don't really understand it.
Iscikella especially. It's like she admires him in some way, and she never asks him challenging questions, and
he always listens to her when she talks to him. Sometimes I feel like I don't exist..Some of it I think is because of
the time I left to go to the Landing for some rest. I mean could you blame me for wanting to get away? When
every night Armaxis was threatening Iscikella and nothing could be done to make it better because she never
ever listened to advice from anyone. And everyone giving blood to the Amasalenite, it's just sick...I don't
understand why they don't just tell them no and be strong. I could never understand being dramatic and sad,
when you yourself were putting yourself in the situation.

Later in the week, snakes began showing up in various places in the temple. Coiled snakes..I saw one 2
times..when I looked at it it appeared wooden, though about 5 feet long..But when you tried to touch it, it would
bite you..or try..It didn't bite me, but Iscikella..the first time she tried to touch it, it missed her..the second time it
bit her and her hand began to swell almost immediatly. Eventually the poison was sucked out and it got better..

The night after that, Arimantis, Iscikella and Dapplecloud were sitting at a table in the pub when a crab
skittered over the table and went out..no one saw it until after it left. Soon after they walked down to the caverns
to see if perhaps Thurfel was about. When they went to his island there were monkeys around but they were
not the normal monkey we saw at first..they would say things like, "The time is Near" Much like Armaxis and
Setzier would do..and Arimantis stepped on a small crab and got quite an infection in his foot, as well as crystal
shards..It was quite a night..and Thurfel from within his home cast fruit out at Arimantis..calling them
merchants..and the monkeys told Dapplecloud that Iscikella was mad..
