My Pets

This past January, my hubby Gene surprised me with a small bundle of fur, a Pekeingese pup.
Shanghai is black with white front bib and a slash of white on his forehead.  He looks like a gizmo.   Shanghai is now 10 months
old.  He loves to play with his toy monkey and pound puppy.
He will also play fetch with his ball. He is a charmer for sure.

I adopted Sweetpea, who is a Silky Terrier, in 1989.  She was abused in her home by her owner.  She is a hyper dog and he couldn't stand her jumping in his lap.  He would throw her away and sometimes she would hit the walls.  The breeder took back the pup and I was only going to keep her until she could find her a home.  I was living in a townhouse condominium run by 'gestapos' who didn't allow dogs or cats.  I would have preferred animals to some of the residents living there.  I kept her inside so no one would know she was there.

Sweetpea  became a ferocious watch dog, very protective of my husband and I.  Needless to say, she became a member of our household.  When we travel, no one will dare to come near the car.  She tries to go through the window to get to them.  She is getting on in years and suffering from cancer.  She has quite a few tumors on her body.  The vet thinks she is too old for surgery and just to enjoy her.  She is in perfect health otherwise.

Today, January 11, 2002, Sweetpea crossed over the Rainbow Bridge.  We will miss her terribly.

Smokey came into our family from a bird sitting job.  I used to watch a co-workers cockatiel when his family went on vacation.  Mike was not too fond of the bird.  Smokey squawks  very early in the morning, just like a rooster.  We put him outside on the patio until the weather gets to cool.

He mimics the other birds that are in the area.  He also is learning to talk.  His favorite sayings are "Watch you doing?", pretty bird, and pretty  boy.  Smokey is also a great whistler.  He is trying to learn Yankee Doodle Dandy.  He gets the notes mixed up though, and Gene and I are the only ones that can recognize the song.  Some day he will get it all together.

Thanks for visiting my pets!
