"Mother Flies Home with Son's Body"
An Aigburth mother returned home from Hamburg last Monday with the body of her son, who died suddenly. Mrs. Millie Sutcliffe, aged 54, of 37 Aigburth Drive, flew to Germany last Friday night after she reeived a telegram saying her 21 yeah old son, Stuart, had died last Tuesday in the arms of his German fiancee while being sped in an ambulance to a Hanburg hospital.
Stuart's father, Mr. Charles Sutcliffe, was ailing from South America but cannot be told of the tragedy for at least another 3 weeks, as he has a bad heart and the news good prove fatal. The family has arranged for a padre to meet the ship in Buenos Aires and break the news to Mr. Sutcliffe.
Stuart, whose whole like was devoted to painting, wentto Germany eighteen months ago with a city skiffle group, the beatles. He intended staying in germany for only three months, but while there he met 23 year old Astrid Kircherr ( sic), and he decided to stay on and enter Hamgurg Colege of Art. They planned to marry when he had finished his course in June.
A former pupil of Prescot Grammer School and the Liverpool College of Art. Stuart was described by a master as a brilliant student.
In a recent art exhibition in Liverpool, millionaire John Moores bought one of Stuart's painting. Said his 20 year old sister Joyce, " Stuart lived for paiting. His whole like was devoted to the subject, and his greatest wish was to have an exhibition of his own in Liverpool"
A few weeks ago he paid a surprised visit to his family, but his sister said he appeared very quiet and not at all his usual self. Joyce added" We had a letter last Monday saying Stuart had been teken ill and the doctors could not diagnose the trouble."
A postmortem was made before Mrs. Sutcliffe flew home on Sunday with her son's body. A blood clot on the brain was given as the cause of his death. |
