Stuart Sutcliffe's Library card ( shown at the left) is in mint condition, and was issued in November of 1962 when Stuart was in Hamburg Germany. When Stuart went to the Art college ( Amerika Haus) in Germany, this was the library card that he was issued. |

"Stuart Fergusson Victor Sutcliffe. Born in Edinburg 23.06.40 (States father's, mother's and sister's names...) Lived in Liverpool at 53 Ullet Road since 1942 Went to school from 44 - 51, exams for grammar school. 1956 General Certificate of Education. 1956 Art school in Liverpool, four years of painting, sculpture and history of arts. 1958 passed first exam in painting and sculpture. 1959 Exhibition in Liverpool together with 25 young French and English painters. Sold one painting for DM 1000.- Second Exhibition in Bradford. 1960 final exam in the art of painting (National Diploma in Design). My sculpture for this exam got the best note and was shown at exhibitions in all big cities. Left Art school in 1960. Played in a Rock'n Roll Band for one year to finance my travels. In autumn 1960, I met my fiancée in Hamburg". |
