IMARC Public Library was founded in 1972 under the name of “Benjamin Franklin”, because the initial book collection in this library was donated by a library with that name. It was until November 1994 that IMARC Library was formerly inaugurated with the name of “Profesor Ricardo Garc?a Granados”.
This library has aproximately seven thousand volumes in collections
about different areas of knowledge, in Spanish and English, for kids, youths
and adults. The collections are divided in : General Interest, Kids, Reference,
Novelties, and Biographies. It also has audiovisual material, newspapers,
magazines for internal use and consultation. For external lends, it is
needed an “ID” given by the library. This l.ibrary also has information
from universities in the United States.
A very important service the library gives to the community is the application of TOEFL exam (Test of English as a Foreign Language), which is required to be accepted into any university in the United States, because it evaluates the English level of a person; also the GRE exam (Graduate Record Examination) which is required by the universities in the U.S. to evaluate the knowledge that an applicant has in the specific subject the person wants to take in the humanities area.
It gives service to the IMARC EFL program students, and also to students from other schools, specially elementary, secondary and high schools.
The elementary school has a program to form the habit of reading which is coordinated by the teachers. Students should get used to the books, and also to the management of the library; it's for this reason that at the begining of the school year the students have a guided visit explaining the functions and organization of the library.
Students go each week to get two books for reading at home, they get one in English and one in Spanish.
Kindergarden students have the "story hour" once a week, in the library; the teacher is in charge of this activity.
IMARC Library opens to general public according to this schedule:
