Book Title: Hand Made
© 2000 by Fern Gordon
Wrap me in layers,
Soft and dense.
Protect me -- envelop me,
Tightly wind around me,
Protective, comforting, warming.
Embrace me with warm certainty,
The steady, sure, beat of your heart,
Comfort me, oh, please do,
I'm so alone.
A great emptiness takes hold.
Unwanted, unexpected, uncalled for.
A sudden turning of the coin,
Flipping glee to sadness.
Good to badness.
All life's treasures turned to tin.
Shining eyes veiled in mist.
Joyous voices, carols, silenced.
Mighty waters dammed up.
Storing,
Powers building anew.
At last. Another cycle.
Flipping sadness to glee.
Badness to good.
Tinny treasures to gold.
Once again filling the scene
With love and life and laughter.
How can I heal this empty soul,
This void, this need?
For with such lacks to fill,
Even cornflakes will do.
How sweet the coolness,
Early in the morn.
The gentle stirrings of birds.
Filtered sunlight piercing through the mist,
Shaking one loose from dark sleep.
Another day renews again adventure.
What will it bring?
There's a chance, you know,
You'll bear life's sting.
Pleasures and pain, arise with every dawn.
How will you fare?
Will your soul be thrown?
Can you stand proud facing all earth's woe?
Will your body crumble as the teardrops flow.
No way to know,
As morning slowly forms,
Which you'll share today:
Soft, gentle breezes, harsh, raging storms.
Death, I see your grinning face,
And, it draws me.
To me, you are the ultimate.
Imagine all the windings and turnings
The leavings and comings that
Lead just to the going
Gently, softly into the ground.
Warmed by the sun.
Chilled by the rain.
Dampness and wetness and rottenness.
I've been there before, so many times.
You've slipped into my soul.
Who else is there to know the muck, the mire
Know not the exalted soul but the dead carcass?
How about it folks, you out there.
Share with me.
My soul stalks the earth.
Bearing its message, but need to share.
Amazing... amazing... Death, how well
we know each other.
