~Stormy~
Where is she now?
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
There are a few theories about what
happened to Stormy. One theory, is that
like Moonglow, she was only a test market doll
in Australia. Another theory is that
Mattel/Hallmark produced these dolls, had
every intent on marketing them, but
due to slow sales on the Rainbow Brite
line at the time, Stormy was never
distributed. There may be thousands of MIB
Stormys out there in some forgotten
warehouse just waiting to be found.
A third theory is, there were only a
few prototypes made. Mattel/Hallmark
had every intention of marketing Stormy. There
is a catalogue for future clothing for the
Dress Up line which included Rainbow Brite,
Tickled Pink, and Moonglow, and a picture
of a Stormy doll wearing new outfits. The
Rainbow Brite era was wearing down
and unfortunately Stormy was never test
marketed or distributed world wide.
Where is Stormy?
No one, as of yet, has said to have
seen one, or better yet, own one.
There are tons of Custom (hand made) Stormys
that have confused a lot of people. The
word "custom" is the key. I have had
emails from people believing these are the real
thing. If you see the word custom, they
are hand made. I've seen some of these
dolls and they are beautiful. Mattel/Hallmark
couldn't have done better, however, these are
not the real Stormy distributed through
Mattel/Hallmark.
Did Stormy exist?
Where are those prototypes of Stormy used
to promote the catalogue?
If the rumor is correct that Mattel had to
buy their own original doll back from Ebay to
produce the prototype for the new Rainbow Brite
2002 doll, now being sold exclusively at Hot
Topic stores throughout the United States, then
does it stand to reason that they kept the
prototype for Stormy?
Moonglow was originally believe to be a myth
as well. Was she produced? Did anyone have
her? Today, we see her being sold almost on a
weekly basis in Ebay. This could be the
case with Stormy. Stormy may be in your
closet right now.
If you have a Stormy, or if you think you
have seen the real thing and not a "custom",
please speak up. Rainbow Brite collectors and
fans would love to hear from you. A place
to let us know is www.rainbow brite.net
This is a wonderful site I found that is
everything Rainbow Brite and more.
We also would love to hear any theories you
might have on Stormy.
Hopefully, Stormy is not a myth.
