All the power in the world won't do you much good if you can't get around a turn.
That's why the new YZF1000R gets a chassis straight from the world of Superbikeracing.
Its short wheelbase, factory type aluminium Deltabox frame features 750cc classdimensions for responsive handling, while front and rear suspension are rebound damping adjustable to suit your individual riding needs.
Powering this sophisticated chassis is an uprated version of the EXUP-equipped 5valve, FZR1000 engine with a lightweight crankshaft, lightweight forged pistons and new BDSR carburettors with TPS for improved throttle response at all RPM plus more mid range grunt.
All of this adds up to a 0.73 HP/kg power to weight ratio. The highest of all sports bikes - full stop! Or in other words, a standing 400 metres in 10 seconds flat!
Complementing the new chassis are highly efficient aerodynamic fairing and bodywork that not only look sensational, but cut the wind like never before. Even the riding position is based on feedback from our factory Superbike riders for greater performance.
The YZF1000 from Yamaha - Blasting its way to the top of pure performance.
What magazines say about it
Then Motorcyclist magazine tested the YZF1000R, they said the bike was: "the most highly refined and effective motorcycle Yamahas has built to date."
The YZF1000R has incredible power, especially in the mid-range section of the powerband. The magazines was "good enough that we can call it the best open-class sportbike yet."
"This is one of the best sportbikes you can buy. Period." said Motorcyclist magazine. The YZF1000R has challenged the entire open class for the title "King of the supersport machines". The all new YZF1000R is already being praised by magazines world-wide.
When Motorcyclist magazine finished with their YZF1000R (Oct/96) they penned: "So just how good is the 1997 YZF1000R? Good enough that we can call it the best open-class sportbike yet. And that's quite a mouthful."
The YZF1000R uses a Deltabox chassis and swingarm cradling advanced Genesis engines. It's equipped with EXUP (our advanced exhaust system that uses computer controlled valves to get the utmost power from the engine. And it has a Throttle Position Sensor (TPS), that use a computer to accurately manage the ignition system for sharper engine response and boosted mid-range power.
Matter of fact, the mid-range pull of the YZF1000R has been called the best ever produced. The YZF1000R has the best power to weight ratio of any machine in its class. And a fairing design that produce some of the lowest wind drag co-efficient numbers ever recorded on a production motorcycle.
The YZF1000R has brakes that got a big thumbs up from all the testers: it's equipped with new 4-piston floating calipers with interconnected pressure balancers, plus new lighter and stronger rotors. Even more importantly, Motorcyclist magazine raved about the bike, even without knowing the impressively low price.
The new YZF1000R. All the power, handling and precision you could ask for.
