BroBroken Dreams
As children bring their broken toys
With tears for us to mend
I brought my broken dreams to God,
because He was my friend.
But then instead of leaving Him
in peace to work alone,
I hung around and tried to help
with ways that were my own.
At last I snatched it back and cried,
"How can you be so slow?"
"My child," He said "What could I do"
"You never did let go."
While You Were Sleeping
While you were sleeping
The enemy came and sowed his seed.
While you were sleeping
Your garden grew up full of weeds.
The love you once had you cannot feel
The thief had come to steal and kill
Your joy is gone-----your strength dried up
You find yourself drinking from a bitter cup.
While you were sleeping.
While you were sleeping
Little children were crying themselves to sleep.
While you were sleeping
The homeless made his bed out in the street.
The family you loved--- now grown apart
Have gone their own way with a hurting heart.
The light has gone out----the darkness closed in
You find yourself carrying a weight of sin.
While you were sleeping.
While you were sleeping
The thirsty soul filled himself with dope.
While you were sleeping
Your neighbor ended her life without any hope.
Your sons and your daughters sold their bodies for a dime
You slept on-- you didn't give them your time
The master of deceit came with a sweet song
And woke up the flesh and destroyed your home.
While you were sleeping.
While you were sleeping
Someone cared enough to pray for you.
While you were sleeping
Warring angels fought off the darkness too.
As the sound of the trumpet wakes you from your sleep
Come my child to the mercy seat
Where the blood is alive--and has been applied
Let the water of life wash the sleep from your eyes.
While you are weeping.
While you are weeping
Jesus sees your tears --your pain he feels.
While you are weeping
Waking up from the sleep of wasted years.
The weight is lifted and the sin is gone
Wiped away from the books before the throne.
Now lift up your soul---ask him to renew
And the cloud pours out his rain on you.
While you are weeping.
The Poem
I knelt to pray but not for long
I had too much to do.
I had to hurry and get to work
for bills would soon be due.
So I knelt and said a hurried prayer
and jumped up off my knees
My Christian duty now was done,
my soul could rest at ease.
All day long I had no time
To spread a word of cheer
No time to speak of Christ to friends
they'd laugh at me, I'd fear
No time, no time, too much to do
that was my constant cry.
No time to give to souls in need
but at last the time to die.
I went before the Lord,
I came, I stood with downcast eyes
For in his hands God held a book
it was the book of Life.
God looked into the book and said,
"Your name I cannot find
I meant to write it down in here,
but I couldn't find the time."
