Sindarin
Death c. FA 470-509

Son of Beren and Lúthien, born and raised in Tol Galen. He married Nimloth of Doriath and lived with her and their children, Eluréd, Elurín, and Elwing, at Lanthir Lamath. Dior fought with Beren in the battle of Sarn Athrad in which the Dwarves of Nogrod who had sacked Menegroth were destroyed. Afterward he lived at Menegroth and attempted to restore the kingdom of Doriath; he may have been King of Doriath.
After the second death of Beren and Lúthien, Dior received the Nauglamír. He was soon attacked by the sons of Fëanor, who coveted the Silmaril set in the necklace. Dior and Nimloth were slain in Menegroth, although Dior killed Celegorm, Curufin, and Caranthir before he died.
Dior was very beautiful, for the blood of three races (Edain, Eldar, and Maiar) flowed in him. He was known as Dior Aranel and Dior Eluchíl, Thingol's Heir.
