Sindarin
Death FA 4th Cent.

Elf of the Teleri, of the kin of Elwë. Early in the First Age Eöl dwelt in Region, but he was ill at ease in Doriath; when the Girdle of Melian was set he moved outside it, to Nan Elmoth, receiving permission from Thingol to dwell there in return for the sword Anglachel. In Nan Elmoth Eöl became a smith, and friendship grew between him and the Dwarves. About FA 300 he encountered Aredhel, brought her to him, and married her. They had one child, Maeglin. When Maeglin and Aredhel fled to Gondolin, Eöl followed them there. Given by Turgon the choice of life in Gondolin or death, he chose the later and tried also to slay Maeglin with a poisoned dart. But Aredhel stepped into his path and died; Eöl was cast over the Caragdûr, cursing Maeglin with his last words.
Eöl was a noble Elf, tall and skilled in learning, but he was grim and aloof, wherefore he was called the Dark Elf. His greatest invention was the metal galvorn.
