Death FA 496
Elf, a lord of Nargothrond, son of Guilin and brother of Gelmir. Gwindor led a small company
of Elves of Nargothrond to the Nirnaeth Arnoediad, wishing to avenge the loss of his brother,
they followed Fingon.
Stationed at Barad Eithel, Gwindor began the battle by madly charging the host of Morgoth
when he saw Gelmir mutilated and slain. Gwindor won through to the Stairs of Angband, but
there he was trapped and captured; all his followers were slain.
After fourteen years in Morgoth's mines Gwindor escaped and was found in Taur-nu-Fuin by
Beleg. The two Elves freed Túrin in his despair at his slaying of Beleg. Gwindor gained
admittance into Nargothrond for Túrin, but there his beloved Finduilas fell in love with
Adan. Gwindor accepted his nobly, but seeing the doom of Nargothrond approach,
he counselled against Túrin's policy of open resistance to Morgoth. However, the strength
and beauty of his body had been ruined by the mines, and his advice was ignored.
Gwindor was slain in the disastrous Battle of Tumhalad.
