Bulma awoke with a start. She thought she had heard something. She lifted her sleepy eyes towards the wall clock. 2:45 in the morning. She turned around and faced the other side of the bed. The space where her husband was supposed to be lying in was empty. She got up and rubbed her eyes, not sure if she saw what she really saw. Vegeta was certainly not there. She heard a slight rumbling noise outside in the hallway.
"What the?" She thought and then remembered. She walked faster towards the gravity room.
There he was, doing his three thousandth push up, sweating like a miner in a desert. Bulma glanced over to the gravatron and saw that it was set to 100. Vegeta had not seen her yet. She quickly went over to the machine and turned it off. Vegeta looked up at her, angrily.
"What the hell…? Why’d you do that for?!"
Bulma waved her hands about, "Vegeta, for God’s sake, it’s almost three in the morning! What the hell are you doing up this late?"
Vegeta got up and stomped out of the gravity room. He walked towards the gravatron. "Isn’t it obvious, woman?! I’m training!"
He reached out to press the ‘on’ button. Bulma hit his hand.
"What are you trying to prove, woman?!" Vegeta yelled. Bulma gagged him with her hand.
"Shut up, you idiot, you’ll wake up Trunks."
Vegeta shoved her hand away from his mouth. "Get outta my way, okay?"
But the determined wife stood her ground. She wasn’t afraid of Vegeta. She very well knew that he could never hurt her physically.
"Vegeta, for goodness sake, stop this obsession and go to bed! You look like a mess!"
Vegeta ignored her and gently shoved her away. "I don’t feel sleepy."
Bulma ran in front of him, shielding the controls.
"Bulma," Vegeta sounded exasperated, "Go to sleep and let me be, okay?"
Bulma shook her head, "No."
Then she went to the back of the machine and opened the control panel. Vegeta heard tinkling of metal and wires. He swore loudly, "Wha… oh @#$%*! No!"
Bulma appeared from behind the machine, spinning a small contraption in her index finger.
"Yes," She said, "Without this gadget here, your gravatron is useless. No more training for you."
Vegeta clutched his hair in frustration. He yelled in anger and instantly turned SSJ.
"Arrggh!! What the… You… why?"
"Because you never spend time with your family, with me and Trunks. I think it would have been better if you married the gravatron instead."
Bulma started walking towards the door. "Now go to bed."
Vegeta gritted his teeth. He knew he was getting close to becoming a super saiyan jinn 3. So close. And Bulma had to spoil it for him. He detransformed and reluctantly followed his wife along the hallway, grumbling.
Bulma slowly opened her eyes. She squinted at the blinding ray of sunlight through her open window. Then she suddenly jumped up and glanced at the clock. 8:10! She had to go to the lab over at Capsule Headquarters for a report at 8:00! She grabbed the clock.
"What the… I set the alarm! Oh no, it’s broken!"
She leaped out of bed and ran to the bathroom.
"Oh geez," She mumbled, while shampooing her hair, "Father’s going to kill me."
She quickly finished up her bath and ran to her bedroom with absolutely nothing on. Vegeta was sitting up in bed, staring at her bare naked body.
"Don’t tell me you’re going out like that." He mumbled.
She ignored him and quickly got dressed. She grabbed her hairbrush and started to vigorously comb her hair.
Vegeta’s arms were crossed and he was looking away, angrily. Bulma slowed down her rapid pace and looked sympathetically at her husband. She sat on the bed and held his hand.
"Are you mad at me because I crippled the gravatron?" She got no answer. Vegeta was still looking away. She lifted his face to her with her hand.
"Okay, you win, I’ll make it work again."
Vegeta looked at her in surprise. He then grabbed and kissed her, then ran to get dressed.
Bulma smiled to herself as she opened a drawer and took a part of the machine out.
Vegeta trained even harder. He trained so hard he began to feel dizzy. But he never fainted. He was determined to exceed Kakarot, even if it kills him. The gravatron was now at 200 and he strained his body so hard his veins look like they were about to pop.
Bulma appeared at the door holding Trunks. She couldn’t come in, she wasn’t trained for 200 times gravity.
"I thought you already left," Vegeta said through his breath. He slowly walked to the machine and turned it off.
"Trunks woke up," She walked over to Vegeta, "Take care of him while I’m gone, okay?"
Vegeta stood up, "What?! How am I suppose to train then?"
Bulma handed a cute baby Trunks to him and walked towards the door. "You eat and train at the same time, surely you can babysit and train at the same time."
Vegeta raised an eyebrow. "What! But I…"
Bulma turned around, "And oh yeah, don’t feed him that bottle in the fridge, in the afternoon give him his vitamins and two cups of that baby food in the cupboard, okay?"
Vegeta looked at his son. Trunks smiled at him and touched his face. Bulma smiled.
"Isn’t that sweet? Well, take good care of him and remember, two cups!" And with that she was gone.
Vegeta stood there, speechless. He then found his voice and grumbled.
"How in the world does that woman expect me to take care of this brat and train at the same time?" He looked at Trunks, who was playing with his collar. "You had to wake up when I’m training." He complained then roughly set Trunks on the floor. The baby half-saiyan is now eight months old and Trunks crawled around the room happily. Vegeta watched his son crawl out of the gravity room. He then collected the frame barriers and stuck them in the doorway so his son wouldn’t be able to go in and get squashed in 200 times gravity. He also placed a frame barrier in the main doorway, so that Trunks was stuck in one big room, away from the kitchen, the outside and especially away from his training.
"Ah, that brat won’t even be a problem." He muttered then resumed his training.
He would check Trunks after some time to make sure he was alright and then continue his efforts to reach SSJ3. Trunks would come at the door, stand up with the help of the barrier and watch his dad.
After thirty minutes of rigorous training, Vegeta plopped on the floor, panting and wheezing. His surroundings spun around him and he felt so tired he could hardly move.
"I can’t move," He thought, then glanced over to the counter. It still read 200.
"I have to set it down."
And with that, he began crawling on his belly towards the door because the main control was outside – in the room with Trunks.
Vegeta had barely crawled six feet when his body suddenly slammed against the floor along with his face. He yelled in pain.
"Yaaarrggggh!!!!" He suddenly felt so heavy. He gathered all his energy to crawl once more but he couldn’t even move his head.
"What the hell is happening?" He screamed out. Then he saw the counter. It was set to 500 times gravity!
He opened his eyes wide in surprise. He blinked them to make sure he saw right. It still was on 500 times gravity.
"Oh sh#@!" He gritted his teeth. "That brat! He messed around with the gravatron!"
And sure enough, Trunks was at the machine, pressing this and that, pulling a lever and fiddling with the panels. Vegeta could barely see him, but it was clear that he was playing around with the machine. Somehow Trunks had managed to climb on top of the chair facing the controls and was now operating it like a hired conductor.
"Why, that brat! What the hell is he trying to do? Kill me?!"
The King of the Saiyans could painfully feel his bones slowly forcing itself towards the ground. He thought his eyeballs would pop so he closed his eyes and screamed.
"TRUNKS!!!!!!!"
Trunks heard and looked at him. Vegeta opened one eye.
"Turn it off! Turn it off, you brat!"
Trunks cocked his head to one side. Obviously, he didn’t understand.
Vegeta yelled again. "TURN IT OFF!!!!"
Trunks looked as if he was thinking hard.
"TURN THE @#$%^&* MACHINE OFF! YOU’RE GOING TO SQUISH ME INTO THE FLOOR!!!!!!"
Vegeta panted heavily. He looked at his son.
Trunks suddenly smiled. Then he slowly crawled towards his daddy and away from the gravatron. Vegeta went livid.
"NO! NO! NO!" He yelled, "NO! DON’T COME HERE!…OH SH*T! NO, YOU SILLY BRAT! GO BACK!!!!!"
Trunks had reached the barrier and had stood up while holding it for support. He pointed a finger at his dad and laughed. Vegeta closed his eyes.
"ARRGGHH!!!"
He tried to crawl but his body was glued to the floor. His heart was beating so loud it sounded like three thousand drums. He tried lifting his head but it felt like an elephant was sitting on it. He glanced over to Trunks and only saw a blur. He was starting to faint. He blinked his eyes again.
Any human could have been tomato sauce now in this kind of gravity, but this is no human. This is Vegeta.
He wanted to faint so much. Not that he could help it. But he decided to keep trying before his son gets the psychological idea to set the machine higher.
Trunks was still at the door, smiling at him. Vegeta glared.
"Don’t you smile at me." He mumbled but Trunks kept his smile. Vegeta decided to rest for awhile. He closed his eyes but remembered not to fall asleep.
Many minutes passed and Vegeta still has his eyes closed. When he thought he had regained enough strength, he opened his eyes and breathed deeply. At least he was feeling better. He looked towards the door. Trunks was not there anymore.
Vegeta suddenly screamed out loud and turned SSJ1. Then he mustered all of his strength and slowly got to his knees. He crawled along the floor, trickles of sweat pouring down his forehead. His veins were swollen. His head was pumping.
"Just a little bit more," He said as he neared the door. He suddenly lost his balance and his face slammed against the floor. That hurt and he yelled so loud he saw that he had awakened a sleeping Trunks near the machine. He looked down and saw drops of blood. His nose was bleeding. He panted and wheezed, and then gave it all he got. He powered up to SSJ2 accompanied by his deafening scream. Trunks sat up and watched him with big innocent eyes.
Vegeta’s hand finally gripped the top of the barrier and he heavily pushed himself over it and dropped on the other side of the barrier. He laid down there for ten minutes, wheezing like a dying patient. He lost his SSJ2 form and the blinding light that surrounded him disappeared.
Trunks laughed and happily crawled over to his dad. When he had reached him, he climbed over his stomach and lied down, sucking his thumb.
Vegeta sleepily looked at his son on his stomach and mumbled.
"You’re lucky I don’t have any energy left to blast you off to the next dimension."
Trunks suddenly looked up at him and giggled, then spoke, "Papa!"
Vegeta’s eyes went wide in surprise. His first word! He looked at his son, then dizzily dropped his head on the floor. He was asleep in seconds. So was Trunks.
"Yoo hoo! I’m home!" Bulma called out while locking the door. She got no answer. She dropped her bag on the living room couch and walked towards the gravity room. She was pleasantly surprised to see her son sleeping and lying on her husband.
"Isn’t that sweet?" She thought. The two most important people in her life. She quietly walked upto them. Vegeta woke up and saw her.
"Oh, you’re here," He mumbled.
Bulma placed her hands on her hips, "And what were you two doing?"
Vegeta blinked his eyes sleepily, he was still exhausted.
"Trunks almost killed me."
Bulma laughed, "Do you expect me to believe that?" She knelt down beside Vegeta and stroked her son’s hair.
"I’m serious."
Bulma smiled disbelievingly. "Okay then."
She bent over and kissed her husband. Vegeta pulled her down beside him and she lied down, hugging him close.
Bulma whispered in his ear, "I Love You, Vegeta."
Vegeta did not respond. He just closed his eyes, wrapped his left arm around his wife and placed his right on his sons head. He has a family now. Someone who loves him. Someone worth dying for.
