Frequently Asked Questions

Where did you get the idea to build this car? and why?

I decided to build this car after visiting the Tokyo Auto Salon (Tokyo, Japan) in 1998.  I was not very interested in import cars up until that point.  I had always liked classic cars, I love the style of classics.  But at the auto show I really started to see some real japanese power.  They are getting a 1000+ horsepower out of a 2.6 liter engine.  To me that's unbelievable.  So after seeing this I decided to embark on this mission.  The original plans called for a 62-65 Chevy II, but I decided on the larger Chevelle base model.  The car is being fully built from the frame up, all of the modifications are listed at bottom of this page.

How long have you been building this car for?

The actual building on the car started in the summer of 1999.  I have been buying parts for quite sometime though.  The engine, a toyota inline 6 cylinder (2JZGTE) was bought in November of 1998.  This is the same engine that can be found in 1993-1998 Toyota Supras.  As of January 2000, the car is completely torn apart.  The chassis is being worked on and the roll cage will be built shortly.

Come on really,  why the japanese motor?

This is what I have been telling everyone, I decided to go with the Japanese engine for a few reasons.  First of all it is a very legitimate power plant, as you will see, read on.  Second, shock value, this makes alot of people very upset ( Click here to read the response to a post I made to the Chevelle Tech web site. ).  And third, I like hot rodding.  Back in the day hot rodding was alot about being creative and doing what no one else had done.  I would like to continue with that tradition, yeah I know it sounds stupid, but there you have it.

What are your goals for this car?

This car has some very high goals, it may not achieve them all but it will attain most of them.  First of all the engine will be built to 750 HP.  Right now the engine is in the final stages of being built, fully built.  My hopes are to break nines, but more likely I will be in the tens.  But understand this car is not going to be trailed, this is going to be my daily driver.  Full interior, full everything... you have to love forced induction.

Why are some people so against this project?

I really don't know, I hope that everyone would be into it.  I know it is shocking to see a classic muscle car powered by an import engine, but please this is not going to be the end of the world.  I have to tell everyone that most of the shit that I catch is from Chevy people, not all Chevy people just some.  Some of them ask the question "how would you like it if you saw a supra with a 502 in it?"  I say that would be just as funny as what I am building.  To each his own, what we need in the automotive world is more personality.  I am tired of seeing everyone with the same old lowered hondas, likewise I am tired of seeing the same old classic with a small block 350.

I hate your car!

Thanks, but I really don't care.

I like your car!

Thanks.
