The 11th Opending Day Friday May 27, 2005

“We’ll leave the light on for you.” That is the slogan of Motel 6 and they say that because they know you are coming. Today was opening day at Indiana’s Premiere Waterpark Deep River Waterpark of course and one had to wonder did anyone inform the public that hey we are open today at 10:00 a.m. and did anyone inform the park that it was going to be open at 10:00 a.m. on May 27, 2005. There is no day like opening day after all this was only the 11th one and hey there was actually decent weather. It was 12:15 and 69 degrees when I arrived it what appeared to be a dust storm.

Luckily, I was directed away from the brand new entrances so I did not have to go toward the dust. Apparently now season pass holders will enter at the old entrance and there will be huge crowds daily because these new entrances are very large. The “Sensational Sasha” was nice enough to walk me all the way over to the new entrance which is actually an old entrance. Apparently, the color of shirts this year is orange. I like that. “The Sensational one” was not wearing a jacket and that surprised me since wasn’t it just last year that she never would be seen without one? Who is that girl I think her name is Kristen at the season passes she changed her hair color I love it.

Scanners worked this year I am used to them never working so I am waiting for the day that they don’t. Now you should now about the park has doubled this year in an unprecedented expansion. Plus new this year Slide Attendants as opposed to Lifeguards at the top of slides. People seem to just love new things but me I am nostalgic at heart so I started at the storm and went on each slide and then it was time to try the Dueling Bowl slides which are designed to look like McDonalds back in the day with yellow and red. There is apparently a red slide and a yellow slide. There are 74 stairs made of wood which become very slippery when wet that lead up to the entrance and this pool you enter is higher than others so a few times I banged my knee. Now there were no signs about how this worked but luckily Lindsey IV told me that I needed to take a tube up there to the top or I would have just walked up there.

I went on each slide I did not know what to expect. They each started out quickly and I was like this is great. I was told it is like be a penny in one of those machines. However as I went around the circle went very slow nearly to a stop and thought boy this is rather dull forgetting about the fun part. Then this water which contains chlorine ends up flying in your face and I believe the description for that is "it burns it burns" I may need to get some goggles for these slides or find someone to lend me their sunglasses. The good thing about these slides is they exit it to this new river. However, once you pass the slide exits you better want to be in that river awhile because exits are not ample.

The new river leaves room for improvement as it was extremely slow and it was full of stuff from the trees and often on me as my nephew would say “ewww” Hopefully, something will be done about that but people need to come out and see these new attractions. I mean all during the day I only saw 5 other people at the park. The tubes for this area of the park which is a hike from the classic side are purple. It was not easy to get to an exit but when I did I went on still my favorite ride the tube slide followed by the 2 body slides and then I went around the old lazy river which went much faster than that new one and it isn’t fast and it was nice and clean it was like I had to go there to clean off.

The dragon was temporarily closed when I wanted to go on it and that made me sad but what doesn't? It was back to the storm and you know classic pattern of vortex, abyss, cyclone, cyclone, abyss, vortex, vortex, abyss, cyclone and cyclone. Then I figure I would try these new bowl slides knowing what to expect and I split and rode them 5 times to figure that I prefer the yellow one because it only goes slow 1.5 circles whereas the red goes 2.5. After times I went around the river which was like a morgue as there was no noise at all I really could hear a pin drop if I wanted to. Once in awhile a piece of machinery would be run but other than that nothing. You know I should be better at remember names I know that Siobhan who made up the fake University who at least told me where the exits was and could not help but laughing when I got stuck because of tubes in between 2 exits. What is her friends name though you know the nice one? Well after going around the river I tried the bowls 5 more times I tried going backwards so that the water would not splash me in the face I don’t recommend that because ended up tipping over when it through me out and there are like jagged edges. I went back to the classic side where the dragon had finally opened and there was a large cheer from the crowd on hand. I went on the curved followed by the steep which was rough on my back.

Next over to the storm for each slide and the stair count went to 2,280 and then I went in the classic lazy river to celebrate the fun for the day. It is my preferred river because you don't have to use a ladder to get out just get out by the mushrooms its fun. It was 3:31 p.m and 71 degrees when I left. Things can only get better from here. In local papers there are 2 for 1 coupons so you should come out and see history in the making at Deep River Waterpark. I return hopefully all this weekend and you should too. I’ll see you there.

Saturday May 28, 2005

Everyday is different one never knows what the day will bring and on this Saturday it was 11:42 and 65 degrees when I arrived at Deep River Waterpark and today I knew where to go to get into the park. I started the day at the storm because that still is my favorite place to be and I climbed up and down the stairs of the various slides 10x before taking the hike over to the new part where I went on those bowl slides. Finally, I figured them out so that my rides were enjoyable when I got put into super slow motion you have got to be kidding me with how slow those last 1.5-2.5 turns are I simply turned the tube around so the water hit me in the back as opposed to burning my eyes. I enjoyed the riding much more today and there was no tipping.

I rode the yellow 2x and red 3x today I preferred the red. The stair count went to 1,010 and around this new river I went. That is a nice feature you can go from slide to river of course you will be in that river awhile. I must say this river was much cleaner than on opening day I like that. It was good not to be covered in various debris as I went on. It still was extremely slow at one point I wasn't even moving. Now back to the old part because there my favorite ride still is the tube slide and I went on it 3x followed by each body slide. Then in the classic lazy river. Remember Lindsey aka the model she was singing to something which is why this river currently is better. I mean over at that new river it is so quite I was glad when one guard walked around the river so there was some noise.

After that it was to the storm and I planned to go on it 10x but sometimes I can't stop and up and down I went it was so good to see Rachel she is the only girl that has made me ever wish I was 15 years younger oh well I never will be but I am sure she is the bell of any ball and for breakfast she had oatmeal how healthy is that. In all I went up and down 15x and that made the stair count 2,190 for the day and that is where I stopped. It makes 4,570 stairs climbed this year. It was 3:07 and 67 degrees when I left the park there was an otter and group of people out in front very odd. They will probably get results later as I can't imagine that someone just happens to be driving by the waterpark and has appropriate gear in their car and say hey I'll just go there right now. Why not plan a trip today to see the expanded Deep River Waterpark before the temperatures heat up and the park gets packed. It is now open every day from 10 a.m. until 6:00 p.m. I'll see you there.

Sunday May 29, 2005

Please tell me what part if any in the next sentence is not true. Last night I was at a carvnival in the parking lot of Meijer in Highland Indiana watching people ride camels for $3.00 a person or $8.00 with a picutre, and there was a limit of 600 lbs per camel ride. If you had aske me this question just the other day I would say that is all made up but really that is what I was doing on a Saturday night which is why it was such a relief at 12:34 to return to Deep River Waterpark with the temperature reading a season high 70 degrees and the largest crowd of the season on hand.

I began the day at the storm following the classic pattern for 10x and then I went over to the dragon and rode each of those slides and on the steep one I got bit on the back by the dragon as many people do. It was then "time to take the hike" over to new section of the park and I rode on those bowl slides 2x on yellow and once on red and the stair count went to 1,050 and around this new river I went. It was so good to Rachel today for breakfast she had 2 donuts and her favorite food is ice cream she must have some good metabolism to look the way she does. I enjoy an oberweis ice cream but not frequently and coming June 20 to the tri town area Culvers frozen custard which is very good. Rachel also seemed to like steak, linguine and something else but I am pretty sure not all together. Rachel's mom was in the park today and I did not get to meet her again I met her once last year but I don't remember to much about that. I'm always worried if people will not like me. My favorite food is rack of lamb which I maybe have once or twice a year. Then I have several favorite meals. From I love that chicken from Popeye's 3 naked strips, with a buttermilk biscuit and cajun rice or maybe corn on the cob with a fruit punch. From Stones and Bones in Munster Indiana a half slab of ribs with a small house salad and spanish rice. From Sheffields in Dyer Indiana the prime rib sandwich over a bed of rice. From the Olive Garden, the lasagna classico with salad and breadsticks. From Papa Murphy's the stories of Anna no wait I just have a crush on that cutie but I do like the cheese pizza. From my own kitchen beef tacos on a soft shell tortilla with shredded lettuce and taco cheese and the food that most people guess as my favorite it wouldn't be Wednesday withouth spaghetti.

Next it was back to the bowls but I find that I prefer the yellow because at least it keeps you going and I know my adversary so I just spin to where I want to be but there isn't much time so I rode it 5x in a row it was fun but I got a little banged up on those jagged rocks and around the river I went very slowly in one place I just kept coming to a stop right after the machines then to the next lifeguard I wasn't trying to stop the river just didn't move me. I took the hike back to the old part of the park and went on the storm 4x the cyclone got rode 2x and then it was time for my favorite ride and it was the tube slide and it was her first day and I was nervous. I was pretty sure you don't need a signal for tube slides but I wasn't going to say anything. She told me I didn't need to go to a different ride and down I went.

Next, it was time "to take the hike" back to the new part and now there were no tubes near the stairs of these bow slides so the slide attendant pointed me all the way to the other end of the river which is where I should go get a tube and I found that stupid since I walked all the way over here but back I went to get this tube and up I went I rode the red slide 2x only because yellow had the lines at it the attendants claim they are the same I don't think so though.

The stair count went to 2,100 and 6,670 for the year I am sure Diane Huntington would be proud God rest her slow. Then around the river I would go because need energy to get back and there was Siobhan but where was her friend whose name I could not remember so when I see her this song "I am the cute one" from Mary Kate and Ashley Olsen pops into my head. I don't think I have not seen them together apparently her name is Christina and you know I knew that but I could not think of that and they were apart and that made me sad. Although maybe that song will no longer be stuck in my head when I see her although thats doubtful. I did not get stuck in the river today but I was at a complete stop and rather banged up from those bowl slides so after 2 times around I hiked back to the old part and that was the day it was 3:12 and 71 degrees when I left. Remember Deep River Waterpark is now open every single day I think until Labor day from 10:00 a.m. until 6:00 p.m. so come on out and see all thats new and old. I'll see you there.

Memorial Day Monday May 30, 2005

One day I may become a priest you never know. It probably won't be easy since I have a crushes on 3 girls that attend my church currently. However, in the event that I do I will borrow the sermon by Father Charlie at St. Maria Goretti yesterday where he says we should live like the day before the most exciting event. For me one of the most exciting days is the day before Indiana's Premiere Waterpark opens one never knows what the next season will bring especially weatherwise. Plus this year with this expansion well isn't it what makes dreams come true. On the eve of opening day I feel much excitement. Many people I suppose feel this excitement on Christmas Eve but not me. I do feel it on Kentucky Derby Eve when who knows what horse will emerge victorious. I believe you can find this feeling to by planning a trip to Deep River Waterpark and the day before see how excited you or your children are and keep that excitement bottle it up and remain happy forever or at least for 2 days Deep River Waterpark can do that for you.

Today it was 11:45 and 70 degrees when I arrived and this 70 was warmer than yesterday's 70 because the sun was shining and today I started out at the bowl slides and I prefer yellow and up and down I went 10x and the stair count quickly went to 740 and then I went around the river which was faster today but then that one area right after those machines did not even move was just at a stand still until a group of children came and were nice enough to push me on it was 30 seconds I counted no moving at all. As long as I am preaching today I may as well say how wonderful it is to have the imagination of a child as I rode this yellow slide I overheard them and they believed that there was a secret hole in this lazy river and if you rode the slide just right you would go through this secret hole and underneath you would find a waterpark full of slides every where that the eye could see some very tall and it is a wonderful place because beneath this river lies a waterpark known as Atlantis which has no lines because few know about it. I wonder if that will ever come true but somewhere in those children's imagination it does indeed exisit.

Next I went on the storm 10x in a row. The guy at the vortex is my favorite slide attendant so far but I don't know who he is. I then rode my favorite slide in the whole park or maybe a new one emerges this year I was on the tube slide 2x and the stair count went up to 1,468 and then I "took the hike" over to the new part and this time I was not so stupid I got in the river and rode around see before you got me not having any tubes near the slide but now I know. I watched thed lines which did get like 10 or so deep waited for them to clear. Then up and down I went I started offf with a Melanie and then there was a Stephanie who just kept smiling the entire time. I thought I was in the wrong place because workers at this park don't smile frequently. Back to back slide attendants that end in IE hmm I like that. I rode the yellow bowl slide 23x in a row because I can I ended up with 3 slide attendants. I then rode around the river for awhile and then it was back tot he storm with the stair count of 3,170 and I thought 5 times will be good but then up and down I went and before I knew it it was 15x and that was good for the day so 4,130 stairs climed today, which makes 10,800 for the Memorial Day 5,000 in memory of "The Honey Who Handled My Money" Diane Huntington I bet she would be proud. It leaves 89,200 stairs to climb to reach 100,000 it is the best start ever.

Can the old man climb 100,000 stairs. Revenge often is sweet so maybe. Don't you want to feel that excitement of anticipation if so then why not plan a trip to Deep River Waterpark today. You'll be glad you did and hey I'll see you there.
