Rambling: This is a sort of 'introduction' to The Prince and the Phoenix. ^_^ This installment's written in the viewpoint of one of the G-Boys. To find out who, you need to read. Hmm...this is also a way to engage the readers (you) so you want to read more of Phoenix (which I'll now be calling this story, affectionately that is) Or decide that you hate it, and so on. ^_^;;;

I always believed myself to be different from all the other kids my age. Any cuts and scrapes that I got always healed at a quicker rate than one would expect. Along with that, just a year or so ago, something triggered the unlocking of being able to use magic. At first, I was only able to cast the simplest of spells, with Zechs' help that is.
He is the only one I told about my talents; 'Gifts', he calls them.
I haven't even told my older sister about them. It's just that lately, both she and Father have been arguing over the most trivial things. No matter how hard I try to keep out of their way, I find myself *feeling* their anger, making me flinch in pain everytime they start fighting yet again.
Sunaru[1] is a pretty quiet kingdom. Almost everyone knows what's going on with everyone else. Surprisingly enough, no one outside of our family senses the tension between Father and my sister whenever they happen to be in the same room. I know it's best to keep quiet about matters at home, lest I be the one to stir up yet another fight.
Too many times have I been in the middle of such.
Zechs's calling my name, making me blink out of my thoughts to look at him. He shakes his head, a small, knowing smile on his handsome features. "You should be getting home now," he says, and I nod.
"Thank you for your help, Zechs." I murmur, before darting out of his home. My run slows down to a walk as a jolt of pain travels through my body, making me fall to my knees. Clenching at the dirt, I close my eyes, trying to block out the pain which is coursing freely through my veins, making my heart beat faster and faster. Something twists in my chest. Not the type of pain which comes whenever Father fights with my sister, but something else...
...It's almost as if something's trying to break free of whichever confines are holding it. Gasping sharply, I struggle to my feet, glancing around wildly with bleary eyes. No one else is around, and I recognise the area I'm in to be the outskirts of Sunaru. I must've not been paying attention when I was running.
Darkness clouds my vision, then sharpens as it clears away. The process seems to repeat itself. Once, twice, thrice.
The pain is even greater now, and still breathing as if struggling for breath, I take a step in the direction which I think the gates to Sunaru are. I've barely taken yet another step forward when everything comes spiraling down, and my strength leaves me in one, sudden jolt. Sitting dazedly on the ground, I can only wonder what's going on as once again darkness threatens to take over my consciousness.
A spilt second later, all the pain and discomfort is gone just as quickly as it had come. Not even bothering to try to stand up, I try to regain my bearings, my strength.
It is only a minute later when a scene, a snippet of a legend both familiar and foreign flashes in my mind. It is of a legend I don't believe I've ever heard before. It just came as unbiddingly as the pain a few seconds before.
People gathered on the outskirts of the kingdom, men with pitchforks and various other weapons as they studied the one before them, lips snarled in distaste. Boldly, one of the men stepped forward, positioning the tip of the thin-bladed, yet deadly, sword at the golden creature. Crimson eyes stared levelly back.
:You are making a grave error.: it stated firmly, locking its communication to the man before it.
Eyes the color of a raven's wing flashed, filled with contempt. "You are not one of us, you can not stay." he sneered.
:Even after I saved you all from destruction?:
"Even still."
:This will be a mistake you shall regret dearly, mortal.:
"Any mistake is worth the riddance of you."
At that, the phoenix's eyes saddened as it spread its wings, stretching one, then the other. It stayed like that, sunset eyes laden with sadness as it bowed its head. :One can not live where they are not welcome,: it started mournfully, lifting his head up with a cry, allowing the rest of the gathered to hear what it had to say. :I shall be reborn into the form of a human babe; one of you. Perhaps one day one of you or your children will be able to find a way to open up my heart once more. For even though you have driven me away, I still wish to help if the need arises. It will be then when I shall revive, and I'll be one of you, yet myself once more. But if you seek my incarnate, beware this fact. Only when one, whose intentions are pure, and heart is true, will I come help all of you from whatever depths of trouble you've fallen into.:
The crowd stirred, unnerved by the mythical beast before them. A single crystal blue tear started slipping down the phoenix's feathered cheek just as another stepped forward. Disturbed, dark blue eyes voiced the question everyone was thinking.
"Who is your human incarnate?"
The tear spiraled to the ground.
:His name will be Quatre.:
The second the phoenix's tear hit the soft, dusty earth, the majestic bird disappeared in an explosion of golden lights.
Raising my hand to my head, headache pounding persistantly with the passing affects of viewing such a legend, I start when my mind finally makes connection with something that...golden phoenix had said. That and the clarity of what's happening to me makes me lean my head against the cool blades of grass, wind rustling through my hair and sending tingles down my spine.
I am Quatre Raberba Winner.
