TIVERTON CHRISTIAN CHURCH
A Brief History of the Tiverton Christian Church
Tiverton, Digby County,   Nova Scotia
Donald Crawford of New Glasgow Prince Edward Island planted the seed of the gospel in Tiverton around 1855.  The Lord gave the increase when a Mrs. Haines of Freeport became the first person to be baptized into Christ.
According to the church records the congregation was established around 1860 by J.B. Knowles.  The group of 25 members first met in a school house and around 1864 the church building was started on land obtained from Wesley Outhouse.  During the ministry of Joseph A. Gates (1867-1872), and mainly through his efforts, the building was completed.
The first elders appointed were John A. Smith and Thomas Ossinger.  With the help of a number of leading women workers the congregation began to concentrate on Local and Worldwide Missions.
Some of the early ministers were:
James B. Knowles, Harris Greenlaw, Joseph A. Gates, E.C. Ford, H.E. Cooke, H.A. Devoe, John W. Bolton, Howard Murray, George Titus, Thomas H. Mason, W.J. Hamilton James W. Derby Malclom Outhouse

Later ministers – (around 1960 until the present)  have been:
H.L. Reid, J.W. Locke, Neil Burt, Maurice McCabe, Ivan Rayner, Robert Johnson, Floyd Gale, Victor McCullough, Lou Outhouse

Over the years these ministers have for the most part served the church in Tiverton as well as our sister church in Westport. Victor McCullough served the churches here for 11 years  and lived in the parsonage at Tiverton.  Our present minister, Lou Outhouse, has served the two congregations since April of 1994 and lives in the parsonage at Westport.
