REVOLT IN ALPUJARRAS |
The Alpujarras is a geographical region between the modern Spanish provinces of Almería and Granada, it is placed in between the South Coast of Spain and the South slope of Sierra Nevada. It is a unknown region which have a lot of muslim remains in its white villages between oaks, pines, grapes trees and water falls, with mosques changed to churchs and ancestral customs and traditions. |

This waar was caused by the Capitulation of Granada (1492), the slow expand of Spanish customs between Muslim lands and the problems of reltionships between both communities. The Christmas night of 1568, the Muslims started a revolt against the Spanish rule in the South East of Spain, killing all the Christian colonist and burning all churches. |

Philip II sent two armies to defeat the revolt: the first was ruled by the Marquiss of Mondejar and have to support the control in Granada and Málaga, and the other one, ruled by the Marquiss of Velez had to conquer the more problematic region of Almería, where was the center of the revolting and where are more usual the landed of Muslim pirates. |
