Indian Poets Writing In Sindhi
Narayan Shyam, Arjan Mirchandani Shad and others

Narayan Shyam (1922-) --- Narayan Gokaldas Nagwani 'Shyam' was born in Kahi Kasim, Nawabshah district of Sindh (now in Pakistan). He did B.A. (Honours) from Bombay University. His publications include seven collections of poems : Maak Phura, Pankhirium, Ranga Rati Lahar, Maaka Bhinaa Raabel, Wari-a-Bharyo Palaand and Aachheende Laja Maraan. He is the recipient of Dr Chaithram Gidwani award (1968) and Sahitya Akademi award  (1970) for his Wari-a-Bharyo Palaand (Poetry).

Arjan Mirchandani 'Shad' (b.1924) --- Arjan Mirchandani 'Shad'  was born in Sind (now in Pakistan). He obtained a doctorate in Sindhi from the University of Bombay. He taught Sindhi literature in a college. He held a number of academic literary positions such as member, Sindhi Advisory Board, Government of India, Film Advisory Board, Films Division and National Book Trust. Having started as a romantic poet of exuberance, Arjan Shad has over time evolved into a staunch advocate of progressivism in poetry, though without making his poetry a vehicle of propaganda or preaching. His poetry is "a beautiful blend of thought and emotion, apt and evocative imagery, soul-stirring diction and ingenious treatment of his vast range of experiences which delve deep into the human psyche." Arjan Shad is also a reputed scholar and translator. He has received many awards, including the Sahitya Akademi award, Soviet Land Nehru award and Maharashtra Gaurav Puraskar.

Krishin Rahi (b. 1932) --- Krishin Rahi was born in Larkana in Sind (now in Pakistan). He graduated from the University of Bombay.  Among his publications are Kumach, 1969 (poetry) and Lurk Ain Murk, 1956 (short stories). He is the recipient of the Sahitya Akademi award (1971) for collection of poetry, Kumach.

Laxman Bhatia 'Komal' (b. 1936) --- Laxman Bhatia 'Komal'  was born in Nawabshah, Sind (now in Pakistan). He holds the degree of B.Com (Delhi University) and a Diploma in Journalism. He worked with Times of India. His publications of poetry include Ghazal, 1960 and Jee-a-Jharoko, 1975. He received  the Soviet Land Nehru award (1974) and the Sahitya Akademi award (1976) for his book,  Jee-a-Jharoko (Poetry).
