My thoughts on I Married an Alien!

This little game of "cancelled/not cancelled" is sorta messing with my head. So this review will contain excessive drooling over Jason Behr. Hey, it's my way of coping. You have been warned. *lol*

This is what they call a "gimmick" episode. While I loved the gimmick part of it, once you take it away, you're basically left with... a Jesse storyline. Liz, Kyle, Maria and Jim (remember him?) got the week off. I guess there's nothing wrong with that, but as I said before, Jesse is pretty much the only character I don't care about, so... and there wasn't a very strong subplot to compensate, other than the sitcom, so it was somewhat unsatisfying at times. But I nonetheless did enjoy it overall.

I was mildly worried when the show started with the credits and apparently no teaser. Wasn't there a time long, long ago when shows actually started with the credits? I seem to vaguely remember... *lol* But we did get the teaser and cute animated credits to boot, so it turned out great! And I just love little cartoon Max.

Boys, my apartment is all white and it's getting rather depressing so do you think you could use some of those painters skills in my living room? Did Isabel choose the New England brick red? On my TV, both colours looked rather similar. And just what kind of person knows the difference between Navajo white and Eggshell?! *lol*

"Who are you and what have you done with Michael?" :) Who would have thought a broken-hearted Michael would turn to classic TV to ease his pain? And what's with the TV-psycho babble? *lol* Michael takes his TV shows very seriously! No one else we know does that... right? (looks around nervously)

I loved how the show went back and forth between reality and Isabel's fantasy. I really liked the applause every time a new character showed up and the laugh track. And I loved the cheesy special effects, like the obvious cut whenever they used their powers to change things, or the floating food. Loved *loved* the over the top acting, too!!

There are tying up some loose ends, finally explaining Maria's change of hairstyle between Season 1 and 2. Better late than never, I guess!! And Maria's birthday is coming up. I wonder if we'll get an actual date? (Not that it matters. They gave us one for Kyle but then changed it)

Speaking of birthdays, Jesse's is July 5. He said Isabel was 18 when they married, but they married after October 31 (that's the date Grampa Valenti pointed to in the episode just before) and Isabel's birthday is on October 25. So she was 19 when they married.

Oh my God! The C+C Music Factory and the Divinyls! It's like high school all over again!! The music Jesse listened to in college was popular when Isabel was in... 4th grade. There's nothing like music to illustrate age difference!

I wish I had alien powers. That way, when the battery of the remote would die, I would just use my powers to turn the TV on and off.

I think Max came down on Michael a little hard. I think Max would be the kind to wallow in self-pity too. Didn't he? Or did I just read too much fanfic? But ultimately I think Max is kinda projecting his own fears unto Michael, as illustrated by his "I don't want Liz's dad to think I'm some loser who has nothing better to do than wait in a booth all morning for Liz to get off work" and the obvious reply to that that he didn't want Isabel to make. Ok, who's going all psycho analytic on a TV show now? (sheepish grin). Sorry.

On to more shallow concerns. Boy, did Max look hot!!! And I think he combed his hair on the other side in that scene where he invites Isabel to breakfast. Wasn't he the cutest when she asked where they would go eat? Awwww. Dreamer sigh. Hey, you've been warned, leave me alone!! :)

I loved how Sitcom-Max had this alien-superiority complex. Real Max is the last one who would think that way. "Am I speaking too fast for your human brain to follow?" *lol*

My favourite scene by far was that "Sigh. Liz." "Sigh. Max." "Sigh. Liz." scene at the Crashdown. I *literally* was on the floor laughing. I watched it again this morning to cheer me up (before I got the news of the non-cancellation – which they'll take back next week, I bet. :( ) It was so perfect! And then Liz showed them to their table and sighed again before she left. Nice way to poke fun at the Dreamers without being mean, cause heck, I admit it, I spend my time sighing whenever these two are on screen. *blush*

Frasier? They couldn't have had Liz mention a sitcom that wasn't directly in competition with Roswell? :) Wasn't it the same writer who made the oh-so-subtle references to Smallville in the Snapple episode?

Second favourite scene: "I'm just having breakfast with my sister. See? My sister. Say hi, sister". "Gee, thanks Mr. Parker. They're lovely." Huge grin. And back on the floor I was. And officially in love with Sitcom-Max. ;)

You know, maybe it wasn't that funny after all, but in the state I was in all day yesterday, that scene was much appreciated.

The only thing I didn't like so much in the sitcom part was that 4-person phone call between Michael and Isabel and their sitcom counterparts. That was a bit cheesy.

"It's not my fault. Except for the part that is." A lesson Real Michael should learn from Sitcom-Michael. Take responsibility!!!

I loved Sitcom-Michael too, by the way. "I left my yo-yo in the warp drive". Giggle.

"The only planet with Whoppers AND Big Mac". Funny they showed that after that particular Buffy episode. I don't think anyone was feeling like a Whopper or a Big Mac. And Carrie, didn't it just make you want to quit your job?

Nice going, Jesse. Plant the crazy theory that they are aliens in Mr. Evans' head. Like he doesn't have enough suspicions as it is. Way to go.

Was anyone else worried that the reporter guy would find Mr. Evans's board?

Not much to say about that reporter guy, though I think he did drop the story a little too easily. And that was some powerful drug! *lol* (and Michael, you stupid alien boy, haven't you learned not to use your powers in public even when you *think* you're alone?!)

How will Jesse react if he eventually finds out the truth about Isabel? He's got quite a temper. Maybe he'll leave her. And then she can be with Kyle. (Looks around) What? My fantasy world is not limited to Dreamers, you know.

Max cleaning the spaceship was funny. At one point in that scene, around the time he said the world would be a quieter place without Jesse, he had a classic-Tyler-Baker-expression *lol* . That in itself is funny (for all of you who ever saw him in Sherman Oaks).

Max mentioned it was the second time Jesse saved them. I'm drawing a blank: when was the first?

Next week looks amazing. I *cannot* wait for it. It seems it's been quite a while since we had a Liz episode, and I've always wanted them to pursue the turning-into-an-alien storyline. Max has developed a new habit of levitating people, hasn't he? *lol* But all kidding aside, it looked pretty serious. I'm a bit worried.

Things I learned watching this episode:

*The world revolves around Michael

*A good-night kiss leads to sex

*Playing golf for money makes it more interesting

*Samantha is a modern-day Athena

*You take the saucer out for one joyride and they never let you forget it

Giggle.
