Air Mail Money Order - 1st May 1951
Air Mail Money Order system was introduced in India in 1935. One anna was air charge for each air mail money order irrespective of the amount of M.O. After 15 years, it was felt by the Director General that a large number of air mail money orders were given only surface transmission for want of an indication on the address side of the money order to show that the money order was to be conveyed by air. To obviate such irregular transmission, it had been decided that a Blue Air Mail Label should be got affixed by the remitter at the left hand top corner on the address side, of the money order form, so that the blue air mail label could become uppermost and quite prominent when the money order form was folded for despatch, vide Postal Notice No.37 dated 4th October 1950.

For the Record
An unused Money Order Form to be sent by Air after affixing 1 anna stamp in the space provided if sent in India. There is a instruction on the vertical side to mention By Air or Air Mail. Used example would be scarce as Post office will retain this part of the form for their record. |
It would be the duty of the money order clerk at the time of booking of air
mail money orders to see that the blue air mail label had been duly affixed
on the reverse side of the form and the Post Master also at the time of checking
the money orders issued by his office, before despatch should satisfy himself
that this had been done.
The then existing air fee of one anna per money order for air mail money orders
in the inland post was abolished and all inland money orders should be carried
by air, wherever such air conveyance was available and was advantageous without
any additional fees being charged. This rule came into effect from 1st May
1951, vide Postal Notice No.6 dated 24th April 1951.
Further, with effect from the same date the rate of commission on Inland
