Scott is not only a
letter writer but also a poet |
|
Oscar D.
Scott, frequent contributor to The Mississippi Press' opinion page, has
done a little of everything, he says.
Born near Laurel, the son of a writer, Scott relates that
he traveled far and wide with his father and shares his love of the
written word.
For 22 years Scott was employed by Ingalls Shipbuilding
Corp.
"Then I built Indian Town, a residential section of
Escatawpa. My wife and I live there now," he says.
When it comes to writing poetry, Scott is no stranger.
"One poem I wrote about Winston Churchill just after
he resigned from office is one of my favorites," Scott says.
"I sent Churchill a copy of the poem and received a nice letter
from him thanking me for it.
"Then there is a poem I call 'Golden Girl.' My wife
has always tried to make me tell her who the golden girl I wrote the
poem about is," Scott goes on. "Golden Girl' is an ode
to an unidentified young lady the writer left behind on the banks of the
Pascagoula River.
Scott and his wife Bessie, have seven children, three of
whom still live in Jackson County. |
