Don Harvey, instructor of "Escape School" spoke to our members at our monthly meeting held September 23, 2003 at The Davey Institute. The nationally-acclaimed program, which teaches children ages 3 to adults how to avoid abduction by strangers, has been featured on the Oprah Winfrey Show, Good Morning America, The View, Hard Copy and others.

Many thanks to the Indian Trails Chapter members who participated in this year's Bosses' Day Card project. Due to the generous support of ITC members, we sent out thirty-nine cards and members donated a total of $101.00 to the Indian Trails Chapter IAAP Scholarship Fund. Rosemary Nicholas CPS, instructor of the "Microsoft Word 2000 Advanced" workshop spoke to twenty-nine members and guests at our monthly meeting held October 22, 2003 at The Davey Institute. The course was designed to help office professionals improve Word skills, save time when working with advanced text formatting, styles and templates, creating forms, mail merge, working with graphics and customizing Word to work the way you want it to. Each attendee received a training manual including information on each of the topics covered at the seminar. The Indian Trails Chapter provided a light dinner and ended the evening with door prizes.

IDENTITY THEFT AND SURVIVAL: Members viewed a short video on identity theft produced by the Federal Reserve Bank of Boston. Sargent Sam Todd of the Kent Police Department also talked to the group sharing some "real life" stories and answering questions. To obtain more information contact Identity Theft Brochure.
The Annual ITC Christmas Party was held on December 16th at the Rocking Horse Inn located in Ravenna, Ohio. This beautiful bed & breakfast home was the perfect setting for our holiday celebration. Holiday music played gently in the background during a delicious dinner. Members participated light hearted games and gift exchange. Many thanks to the Christmas Party Committee for a wonderful evening.
This meeting was cancelled due to bad weather. The program will be rescheduled. Watch for news on the reschedule date in the near future.
Michelle Ziernicki, local Avery Dennison® representative gave a great comprehensive presentation on timesaving tips, image enhancing ideas and cost-saving option for the office. "Business Solutions for Greater Productivity" was given at as part of the regular monthly meeting of Indian Trails Chapter on Tuesday, February 24, 2004 at the Maplewood Career Center located at 7075 St Rt 88 in Ravenna, Ohio. The meeting was held at no charge for all interested IAAP members and their executives and guests, local area administrative professionals and students. Refreshments and hor d'oeuvres were provided.
Our annual IMPACT membership was part of the evening's program with our IMPACT Chairperson giving a presentation to attendees entitled "International Association of Administrative Professionals - Who We Are What We Do". Drawings for door prizes took place at the end of the evening. Indian Trails Chapter IAAP gained six new members as a result of the membership drive.
Bev Puleo CPS presented a 20-minute video on "Getting Organized - and Staying Organized" that gave attendees some real down-to-earth tips to "cut through the clutter." The presentation provided some quick and practical ideas to manage time, handle interruptions and gave other helpful approaches to "work better, not harder."
The winning ticket held by Rosemary Nicholas CPS CAP was drawn at the February IMPACT meeting. Rosemary donated the basket back to the chapter so a second drawing could be held at the March meeting. The lucky winner of the basket at the March meeting was Linda Roberto. Congratulations, Linda! Thank you, Rosemary, for your donation!
Through the generosity of Indian Trails members, the raffle ticket sales earned a total of $136.00. The Chapter has received a letter of thanks from the IAAP International Board of Trustees. This year's theme was "Ambassadors of Excellence" signifying that administrative professionals are key front-line representatives for their employers, their profession, and organizations such as IAAP.
Over 60 attendees joined us for a few hours of good food and entertainment in honor of administrative professionals. A luncheon complete with speaker, Deborah Lynn Darling, raffle baskets, door prizes and more was held on Wednesday, April 21, 2004 at The Rusty Nail located in Kent, Ohio.
Raffle baskets of various themes were provided by IAAP members. Tickets for a chance to win the basket or baskets of choice were sold to all who attended the luncheon. Thank you to all who donated the baskets and those who purchased raffle tickets. Ticket sales totaled $309.00, and the proceeds were donated to the Battered Women’s Shelter.
Shannon Lees of OfficeTeam/Accountemps conducted a presentation entitled "Secrets for Successful Interviewing". Shannon shared some interviewing techniques that would assist both the interviewee and interviewer in reaching their goal - that is, to get a candidate for the job that both sides find acceptable! It was a "must" for anyone currently pursuing a change in employers or careers.

Dr. Roger Funk, Vice President & General Manager of The Davey Institute, Kent, Ohio explained how each generation's experiences, values and beliefs have shaped its work ethic and work habits, values and beliefs. He also gave us some tips on how to communicate with each other and work effectively together, in spite of generational differences, and we looked into the future when the largest generation in the workplace today, the "Baby Boomers," retire. A light meal was provided, compliments of Davey Tree.
Pattie Harris, Ohio Division Treasurer for 2003-04, conducted the installation of the 2004-05 Chapter Board members. The installation theme centered around spices which add variety and flavor magic to our lives. Likewise, the new officers will be the main ingredients of variety and “magic” in the chapter’s recipe for success in the coming year.
New officers for Indian Trails Chapter IAAP for 2004-05 are: Susan Straub CPS CAP-President, Mary Jo Cline CPS CAP-President Elect, Denise Few-Treasurer, Mary Ann Schaefer-1st Vice President, Bev Puleo CPS-2nd Vice President, Gina Kelling-Recording Secretary, and Barb Mast CPS CAP-Corresponding Secretary.
2004-05 President Susan Straub CPS CAP addressed the attendees announcing the theme for the upcoming year of “Always Reaching For Success”. Goals for the new year will include member retention and growth, continuing to present excellent monthly programs and special events, and worthwhile community service projects. She promised members an exciting year, and encouraged members to give serve on one of the various committees. Sue concluded by stating that Indian Trails members will continue to reach new goals and feel proud of what has been accomplished. Each member was then given the new theme pin.
Members were reminded that no meeting will be held in July and they should mark their calendars for the August picnic which will take place on Tuesday, August 24th at the old jailhouse located at Fred Fuller Park in Kent, Ohio.
