JerryCan Interview
Oct.2002
INDIERAGE : What is your home town music scene like right now?
JERRYCAN :Well, we almost all originate from orangeville and the scene's still my favorite scene to play in front of.

INDIERAGE : Do you guys work day jobs(School) or is this your main focus right now ?
JERRYCAN :Toby and Adam are attending faculties of higher learning, while Tavis and I(Jeremy) are working our asses off.I'm going to be a dad soon so I have to work twice as hard.

INDIERAGE : We listened to the new CD PROG*RESS,( The 3rd full release) I liked 'Talk To You', So Soon I'll Die' & 'Poor Little Bird'. What seems to be the crowds fav's ?
JERRYCAN :Our live show is so different from our CD that typically the favorites live are the heavier songs, although people seem to like so soon ill die.

INDIERAGE : What seems to be the bands biggest disagreement & Agreement ?
JERRYCAN :money, perseverance.

INDIERAGE : How easy is it to get Jerry Can shows ?
JERRYCAN :It's not too hard , we're relatively well known, it's just a lot of phoning etc.

INDIERAGE : What is the biggest sham you ever recieved by the music industry ? Anything that can help warn other bands.
JERRYCAN :We played a industry battle of the bands for supernova or some shit like that, with a band you might have heard of called sum 41. They won... (they deserved to win, they were assholes and they had trampolines on stage.)any how we got offered a record contract that night and (of coarse) turned it down. Now they've sold 3 million albums... go figure.the moral...the less honest your music is the more likely to make money.

INDIERAGE : You were recently on the road , often with Broomfiller , How were the shows & people's reactions to you ? Any Cities that seemed exceptional ?
JERRYCAN :Quebec rules, thats our favorite place (other than our home town.) to play. generally we had good responses, but it is hard when pop punk is so prevalent.. 15 year old trend jumpers don't like us. We call ourselves musicians, music, that's how we reconcile having sold so little merchandice.

INDIERAGE : What are the bands plans right now ?
JERRYCAN :Play music, become the most prolific independant band ever.

INDIERAGE : You were also on a compilation CD put out by your own label SOL Politics " Hate Everything, It's easier". Did the project come together smoothly?
JERRYCAN :Sooo smooth, smooth like a newlly polished shuffle board.

INDIERAGE : The main purpose of this site is to help bands with info. You have been getting lot's of college radio play. Did you send out the CD's Yourself ? Did you make follow up call's ? & was it expensive to do all of this ?
JERRYCAN :It is expensive..I should write a book on it....basically find addresses and harass them into doing something.

INDIERAGE : What would you say has been the best way that you have gotten your name out there, besides touring ? would it be MP3 sites, Contests, Compilations etc..?
JERRYCAN : Luck..playing live and forcing people to buy your cds.

INDIERAGE : Your music is really different, it needs plenty of listens. I hear allot of potential & growth not pigeon holed. What direction do you see yourself musically taking in the near future ?
JERRYCAN :We will always write the opposite of whats popular in some way, it'll always be intense. Our next two cd's are written and their weirder than the last ones.

INDIERAGE : It is obvious the band is on the ball in all aspects, including quickly following up contacts. This is great for you guys & shows dedication. How many people do you have on your team ?
JERRYCAN : one, the man known as JAMES CAVAN.

INDIERAGE : What are some of your favourite Canadian Bands on the Indie scene today ?
JERRYCAN : NO MEANS NO, are the greatest canadian band ever.Every one should have their cd.

INDIERAGE : Can you share with the class anything you learned from the tour you just did? Anything you would be prepared for more next time, or anything you would not have done.
JERRYCAN : Most bands want to be rock stars and it shows. we want to make money from our music but not the way every one else does. Sex drugs and rock'n roll is bullshit.I'd like to be like blue rodeo, making a living, but without the bullshit.

INDIERAGE : Thanks very much for doing this with us.Before you go, Who would JERRYCAN most like to open up for ?
JERRYCAN : nirvana, melvins, bad religion
