Map Information

The following is information that we have put together to assist you while playing ANTS:

Prelude: For starters, Ants is a game of strategy, the goal is to win - how you win is up to you (provided you play fair). Gathering food is obviously the most important aspect of the game - without points from food - you will most likely lose - possibly tie. In addition to gathering food, some players attack other players ants, set bombs around other players hill or food, or build fires around the opponents hill - making it impossible for an ant to get into or out of his hill...unless another Fire ant on the other Team is available to fight the fire ant or extinguish the flames. In any case - it is rather unfortunate when your hill is surrounded by fire (believe me, I know!) - so always have a Fireant or a Bomber to prevent this from happenning. Another strategy is to use thieves to steal food from other players - this lowers their scores and gives you awesome points! Yet another strategy in Ants is to get Swimmers and hide in the water - waiting for the right moment to strike. In any case - just remember that "anything goes" in Ants -provided it is fair. HAVE FUN!

Treasure:

Notes:
The Treasure map is a relatively easy map to learn & is one of the most popular maps. At the beginning of the game, it is important that you collect all of your powerups near your hill (BomberAnt, Swimmer, CombAnt, FireAnt & Thief). After collecting the powerups, begin eating the food in the middle of the board. Blocking the backdoor of your hill should discourage and perhaps prevent your opponets thieves from stealing your food. Block the back door with bombs, fire, or a combination of the two. When the food in the middle runs out, you must begin searching for other food to collect - the cereal and the food at the very top and bottom of the board are worth more than the food at the sides of the board. You can set bombs around your opponets food which should give them a headache and slow them down for a while. If you choose to fight or are attacked, press "control+L" to see how much life your ants have...when your ants are low on life - send them back to your hill to "re-fuel." If you need additional ants, press the "control+H" to hatch a new ant (you must have at-least 200 points).

Medium:

Notes:
This map is a little more difficult than Treasure. As soon as the game begins, you should send a few of your ants to the middle of the board to collect powerups...but be careful - other ants are likely to have the same idea and attack you. Also, if someone gets a fireant and places fire at the base of the "powerup flower", you can forget about getting additional powerups for approximately 3 minutes - which is how long it takes for the fire to go out. During gameplay, it's important to block your backdoor to prevent your food from being stolen. You may also decide to plant bombs around food or in your opponets path in order to slow them down. Stealing food from your opponets is a great way to lower their score and increase yours! When fighting in Medium, make sure you stay away from the water - a CombAnt can slap you right into the water if you're too close!

Islands:

Notes: Islands is an expert map which is pretty tough to play (and win) without help. There is a help page for Islands at the Zone that I reccommend reading before playing this map. It is important on Islands to get as many swimmer ants as possible - and to get a FireAnt and place him at the backdoor of your hill. To get the powerups at the corners of the board, you must walk over the other powerups - this is hard to understand for the beginner - but with practice - it becomes simple. The "powerup flower" at the top and bottom of the board are other sources that you can retrieve powerups. The food that you should start eating is the food located on the islands...the candy is worth the most points. Once the candy is out on all of the islands - begin eating the food at the sides of the board. Fighting on Islands is not reccomended unless you are a Swimmer and you are attacking an ant that is not a swimmer - attacking "naked" ants should be simple - just boot them into the water. Remember that a FireAnt resting on fire can only be attacked by another Fireant...except in the rare case where a fight occurs near you and you are knocked off the fire by a wounded ant - this is pretty tough to avoid, try to keep the FireAnt on his fire and away from fights -your fireant should be relatively safe in that case. If you see an opponent building a bridge to your hill to allow a Thief or FireAnt over - quickly remove the bridge with a SwimmerAnt.

Gauntlet:

Notes:
There are 2 ways to start the game in Gauntlet: 1st method: Send all of your ants to the powerups near the food at the at the East side of the board - there are two CombAnt powerups, two Swimmers & one Thief powerup in two different spots at the far right & lower right end of the board - then send you ants to the food - press "control+A" to select all ants. 2nd method: Send a few of your ants to the top left of the screen to the "powerup flower" to wait for powerups...if you get fire or bombs - block your backdoor and you can then attempt to set fire around an opponets hill to prevent them from scoring and hatching new ants...Beware: ants that are blocked from their hill often turn and attack! After getting powerups, begin getting points by either stealing or getting the food at the bottom right of the screen.

Tiny:

Notes:
The tiny map is a quick game with no powerups. At the beginning of the game, select all of your ants and begin gathering food. It is sometimes a good idea (especially if you're expecting a battle), to hatch a new ant or two so that you are able to gather more food - and to help you win battles. Since there are no powerups you don't have to worry about other ants stealing your food or placing fire and bombs around your hill. As in most maps - it's generally a good idea to engage in a battle near your own hill so you're able to quickly "re-fuel" injured ants by sending them into your hill...then send them back into battle and "re-fuel" any other injured ants and so on...

Small:

Notes:
At the beginning of this map, it's a good idea to send an ant over to the "swimmer" powerup so you don't have to worry about him getting knocked into the water and drowning. Your other ants should begin obtaining powerups from the "powerflower", then begin eating the pretzels - the lollipop in the middle of the board is worth more points than the pretzels...also the pretels run out fast, so you may want to eat your opponets pretzels too. There are 2 "powerup flowers" on this map, 1 at either side of the board. Obtaining fire and bombs will allow you to block your backdoor from Thieves. You can also slow you opponents down by either firing their hills or by placing bombs around their food or around their hill. When engaging in battle, it's best to back your opponents up to the water and knock them in one at a time. Also, sending thieves to steal food from your opponents is a great way to lower their score and increase yours - ultimately allowing you to win the game.

Deathmatch:

Notes:
This map is strictly a battle match...kind of like one big wrestling match. There is no food on this board and only 1 type of powerup, the CombAnt. The first thing your ants should do is obtain as many "CombAnt" powerups as possible - which are scatterred in the middle of the board. When fighting your opponent, remember that it's easier to knock them into the water than to hit them multiple times and waiting for their life to expire. It's also a good idea to fight near your hill so you can "re-fuel" your ants when their life is low. The winner of this map is the player (or Team) that kills the most ants.
