Some changes can be made without incurring capital costs, such as changing the train schedule . . . Shorter Headways The 30 and 60 minute headways now offered make for inflexible service that is neither practical nor convenient for most riders in the Fairmount Branch corridor. In order to be useful to local, urban ridership, service frequencies on the Indigo Line will have to increase to a minimum of every fifteen minutes. Ultimately, every ten minutes is preferable. Fifteen minute headways will require doubling peak service.Longer Service Hours The lack of service on weekends and after ten o’clock at night greatly limits the attractiveness of the Fairmount Branch, particularly for discretionary trips. Span and days of service should be increased on the Indigo Line to a level commensurate with other rapid transit offered by the MBTA. (The rapid transit lines operate from approximately 5:30AM to 12:30AM every day; some lines start an hour later on Sunday morning).Next: New Stops and Improved Stations Indigo Line Home Page || Background || Existing Conditions Future Opportunities || Cost || Supporters || Conclusion || Pix Downloads || News || Contact the Indigo Line This page created 9.9.00, last updated 8.1.01. |
