(Digimon Alternaverse/Continuation)

Author’s Notes: I do not own Digimon or its characters.
This is just my work of fan fiction and will not be used in any way for profit.
Also, if you haven’t seen the Digimon show, you won’t have to worry as much because it’ll take place in the year 2005 (no, there aren’t any high-tech stuff in this fic) and it’ll be like a whole new Digimon,
this time with everybody knowing each other. Still, be warned.
I haven’t added all that much to the original series.

Prologue: Angel’s Dreams

Date: Saturday, June 10, 1997 ---- Time: 2:22 AM ---- Location: ????

Hikari stood out in the open fields, her short hair waving lightly in the autumn breeze.
It was evident that she had been crying from the soft shudders that occasionally wracked her body.
The young girl was staring at something on the ground.
What’s wrong?, I think. I walk over, placing my arm on her shoulder.
“Hikari? Hikari, is everything okay?” Either she didn’t hear me, she was mad at me for some reason, or she just didn’t want to reply.
Another sniffle rocks her body. I take a look down. All that’s there is a tombstone. Wait a minute.
What does that stone read? “Why did you have to die, Takeru?” Her sudden remark shocks me and I stumble backwards.
Dead? Me? I can’t be dead! “Hikari?” I recognize that voice. It was Daisuke; I could tell even from over here.
“Hikari, you want some more time alone?” She shakes her head. “No, that’s alright, Daisuke. Thanks for coming to pick me up.”
That said, the two kids walk away, not even bothering to notice me.
Kids? They seemed a bit more...grown up than usual.
As if they were high schoolers or something. I take another look at the tombstone.
I was shocked even more.

Takeru Takaishi-Ishida
Born: 1989 Died: 2005
He was the best friend I could ever ask for... and more.
-Hikari Yagami
He had so much more life to live. My heart goes out to him.
-Koushiro Izumi
He was a great brother. He was also a great hero.
-Yamato Ishida-Takaishi
Without him, none of us would be here today.
-Taichi Yagami
He was young, but he had more courage and self-esteem than I would ever have.
-Joe Kdio
He had to face too many tortures in his life. I hope he is much happier in the afterworld.
-Mimi Tachikawa
He was always the one to cheer me up whenever I was down. I never deserved his kindness.
-Sora Takenouchi
He was the greatest friend I ever had. I will never forget what he did to save me and everybody else.
He also gave me my chance to be with the person I love the most.
-Daisuke Motomiya

No wonder they were so old. This was year 2005! Wait a minute...
I cringe. What? I’m dead? No way! I can’t be dead! I can’t be dead at all!
You’re dead. Don’t deny it.
I turn slowly around. There, standing right next to me, is Shinigami. Die.
It raises the giant scythe, its red eyes glowing inhumanly inside that bare skull.
It comes downward, passing straight through my body with sickening ease.
I cry out in pain. I see my blood everywhere. But if I’m dead, how come I’m feeling pain?
Come to me, Takaishi. Takaishi... Takaishi...
Takeru Takaishi-Ishida awoke suddenly, bathed in sweat. The little kid wiped his brow.
Tears were coming to his eyes, but he forcefully pushed them back. He wouldn’t wake up the entire house over such a small thing as a nightmare.
Tiptoeing to the bathroom and getting a towel to clean himself, Takeru kept twisting the words around in his head.
You’re dead. Don’t deny it... And another sentence came back as he pondered that.
Come to me, Takaishi. Takaishi... Takaishi... Takaishi...

Date: Friday, January 26, 2005 ---- Time: 9:54 AM ---- Location: Yosudo High School; Classroom 6-C-2

“Takaishi-kun? Takaishi-kun! Wake up, Takaishi-kun!” Takeru Takaishi-Ishida woke up with a sudden jerk.
“What the!? Where am I!?” The white-blond found himself being stared at by almost all of the class, save Daisuke.
Recognition soon dawned on him as he made eye-contact with his teacher.
“Oh, um, gomen nasai, sensei.” The teacher wrinkled his nose. “Takaishi-kun, I will see you after school for detention. Understood?”
Takeru grimly nodded. “Hai, sensei.”
Everybody else turned back to what they were doing, but a pair of eyes kept themselves locked on Takeru’s back.
He shook involuntarily as the nightmare echoed throughout his head.
You’re dead. Don’t deny it...

Location: same place, 3:31 PM

Daisuke snickered as he passed class 6-C. Serves him right, he thought.
A quick glimpse into the room made him smirk. Takeru was sitting in his desk, saying nothing.
Yep. Definitely serves him right. I bet he was thinking about MY Hikari. Loser.
With that, the brown-haired Chosen continued on to the computer lab.

Hikari sighed as she walked into her apartment. Her brother, Taichi, was sitting plainly on the couch, watching another re-run of Pokemon.
“Hey, Hikari-imoto,” he replied glumly. “Hey,” she answered just as glumly.
Taichi, being the all-knowing leader that he was,
didn’t notice and continued watching the show, muttering something about stupid copycat evolutions of their Digimon.
Hikari decided to swallow her pride and asked. “Niichan, can I ask you something?”
Her elder brother waved his hand. “Yeah, sure, why not? It sure beats having to watch some stupid cartoon shows. Okay, whatcha worried about?”
Hikari shifted her feet a little. “Well, actually...don’t get this wrong, or anything, but...well...it’s about Takeru,”
she finally spat out, expecting to hear something from Taichi like ‘Well, if you wanna ask him out, just drag him over to a movie or something and make him pay for the both of you.’ What she got was nearly that.
“Let me guess, you wanna go out with him, huh? Well, if you wanna do that, just drag him over to the movies or something and-”
The young girl interrupted, “No, niichan, that’s not it at all. It’s just...well, he was sleeping in class today, and was pretty shaken up afterwards.”
“-make him pay...huh? Oh, it’s about THAT stuff. Well, if that bothers you, why not ask Yamato?
He probably knows more about this than I do, anyway. Or why not just ask Takeru himself?” he queried, his concern level rising up just a bit.
Kari nodded. “I-I guess so. But I’m just kinda nervous when I’m talking to him alone...” She let the sentence hang.
Mental Note: imoto’s in love with Takeru but she won’t admit it and I need to get them together.
What he said was, “Okay, then, talk to Yamato if you’re so nervous talking to Takeru.
Besides, I don’t see anything bad about sleeping in class.”
Nodding hesitantly, Kari escaped into the kitchen and grabbed the phone.
“Heheheheheh, so she likes Takeru, eh? Well, I’ll have to spark it up a bit...”
Silently laughing maniacally to himself, Taichi dashed into his room and started to write down ideas to get her and Takeru together.
Of course, he was just doing this for Hikari’s sake. That was what older brothers do, right?

Location: a few minutes later, Ishida Residence

BRIING-BRIING! “I got it!” Yamato barged from his room to the phone.
“No, I got it!” Takeru howled and raced out from his disheveled room.
“Oniisan, you already got it last time! Now it’s MY-”
“Moshi moshi?” Yamato smirked at Takeru who was staring daggers at his older brother.
“What? You want to go out with Takeru? Sorry, he’s not home right now, Hikari. I’ll let him know when he gets home!” Yamato purposely inflated the names out.
He was rewarded as Takeru stared, dumbfounded. A flush crept up his spine and through his face, threatening to blow up.
Swearing loudly, he ran back into his room, with Yamato laughing his ass off near the phone.
“Okay, he’s out of the room now. So what did you want to know?”
*Well, actually, it IS about Takeru.*
“Oh, really? What, don’t tell me that you DO want to go out with him?” The blush was audible over the line.
*WHAT!? No way, that’s not it at all!* Yamato snickered a bit.
“Sure, whatever, Hikari. Riiight, I believe you. Yeah, and I bet Taichi’s interested in Sora now?”
*Grrr...Yamato, just listen to what I have to say, OKAY!?*
“Yeah, sure, Hikari. What’s up with squirt now?” Mental Note: Hikari likes Takeru but won’t admit it and I need to get them together.
*You see, he...Takeru...was, um, sleeping in class today.*
“Yeah, so? I do that every day! What’s so wrong with that?”
*God, you and niichan are more alike than I thought! Anyway, afterwards he was acting sorta...closed up. It was like he was scared of something. Do you know anything about that?*
The older teen shrugged. “Beats me. Why not try asking Takeru himself? Hey, Takeru! Hikari wants to talk to you about that date!”
*YAMATO! Don’t you DARE tell him that! I don’t even like him!*
“Takeru, she says she wants to go to the movies with you!” Hikari’s ear-splitting screech finally stopped Yamato from his endless teasing.
*AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAARRRRRRRRRRGGGGGHHH!!!!!!!!!!!! YAMATO, SAY ANYTHING, AND I MEAN ANYTHING, AGAIN AND I WILL PERSONALLY COME OVER THERE AND SLAP YOU UPSIDE THE HEAD!!!!!* Yamato only chuckled.
“Fine, fine, fine. Hey, squirt! Come to the phone, will ya?”
*Oh, no, don’t tell him to come to the phone! I don’t want to talk about this with HIM!!*
“Um...uh, moshi moshi?”
*Click!* Takeru placed the phone on the hook a bit discouragedly. “Man, I wonder what’s going on with her?” Shrugging it off simply, he padded back into his room to finish Yamashita-sensei’s ‘extra homework’ for sleeping in class.

It was the same dream as earlier this morning.
I was out in the fields, Hikari was standing by the tombstone, weeping.
Everything happened in perfect order, except I didn’t bother taking a look at the tombstone.
I placed my hand on her soft flowing hair and smiled.
Little jolts of pleasure sizzled up my spine and through my head.
She always had that effect on me. She, on the other hand, didn’t even register my touch.
I shrugged nonchalantly.
You’re dead. Don’t try to deny it.
The cool sickle passed down my body. I felt pain, but didn’t try screaming.
It was all just a dream, right?
Come to me, Takaishi... Takaishi... Takaishi...
This time I didn’t wake up. The dream droned on without interruption.
Through my closing eyes, a silver light sparked in the center of my blackened vision. Was this what death felt like?
The light comes closer, revealing itself to be a figure of something. Angemon? Yeah, that was what it was.
“Takeru, don’t give up. Use your powers. Use the Heaven’s Knuckle!” As if on cue, something hissed in the eternal darkness.
Come to me, Takeru. Be mine forever.
“Leave him be! If you must take a soul, take mine!”
Bah. Angemon, your soul is not nearly as powerful as this young soul’s.
“No! I will not allow you to take his pure soul and defile it with hatred!”
Angemon, your pathetic pleas are useless here. My job is to take this boy’s soul, and even your Knuckle cannot stop me. Now begone, worthless creature.
“Enough of this! Heaven’s Knuckle!” The dazzling light arcs downward into that unholy depth.
AARGH! Face my wrath, Angel! Dark Tentacles!
Angemon stood his ground. A fatal mistake. Thousands of dark lightning bolts pierce his angelic body, killing him almost instantly.
ANGEMON! I finally find the will to move.
Your turn, fool.
“NO!” I lunge forward, a trail of tears shimmering through the darkness.
Angemon was gone. He was the only thing that mattered now. I would get revenge. Even if I...I... ‘use the Heaven’s Knuckle’?
Power untapped suddenly overtakes my body, and I fear it will destroy me if I don’t get rid of it. But...but how?
...Heaven’s Knuckle...
Shouting loudly, I finally find the escape vent through my right fist.
“HEAVEN’S kNUCKLE!” Giant wings shoot out my back, burning my spinal bones as it did so.
The trademark rod seeped into my hand and I let it all out in one powerful blast, one even stronger than Angemon’s.
It sears through the darkness, and a hot growl of pain escapes the unknown monster seeking to destroy me.
AAAARGH!! YOU... LITTLE BOY, YOU SHALL BE CURSED TO DAMNATION! LIVE WHILE YOU CAN, DAMNED CHILD...!!
And then there is light, as if I am just waking up...
“Takeru! TAKERU!” Yamato shoved his brother awake.

Location: same place, time, Digital World

“Enough of this! Heaven’s Knuckle!” Raw power courses through my fingertips as I let out the beam of light.
AARGH! Face my wrath, Angel! Dark Tentacles!
I stand my ground foolishly, trying to protect my master with my brilliant wings.
Even as the first line passes through my right thigh, however, I know my life is over.
With my last breath, I break open the final barrier to Takeru’s full power.
The second rips open my heart, and then I wake up in a Digitama, not remembering anything that happened, yet remember fully what had happened.

“Patamon! PATAMON! Wake up!” Hard claws nipped on his soft fur. Sweat dripped down Patamon’s sides. But he didn’t wake up.
“No...must help Takeru...!” the little mammal shrieked. His wings flattened against the rock-covered ground.
POW! Tailmon’s furry paw launched Patamon several feet through the air.
“Patamon, what’s wrong!? Wake up!” Slowly, consciousness dawned on the furry mammal and he shook himself off quickly, trying to take in his surroundings.
“NOO! Stay away from Takeru! Don’t touch hi...” Recognition crossed his face for a brief moment.
A gentle hand placed itself on his back. “Patamon, don’t worry. Whatever it was that you were dreaming about, it’s over. Calm down.” Gennai’s ever-so-soothing voice brought down Patamon’s rages down a peg or two.
“Now, tell us what happened.” Patamon looked stricken for a moment, then slowly raised his head.
“It...It was Takeru. He was in some kind of...blackness, and I was Angemon, but I couldn’t control myself.
It was like somebody else was using my body...After I talked to him for a bit I heard something...something evil in that darkness...so I turned around and shot my Hand of Fate at it.
It seemed hurt, then...oh, god, then...it hissed out Dark Tentacles or something, and I-I was killed...But before I died, something weird happened.
It was like...like Takeru had wings of his own, and h-he shot that t-t-THING with a...Heaven’s Knuckle...” He let that sentence trail on.
Tailmon snorted. “Well, talk about a messed up nightmare. You gonna be okay?” Patamon nodded weakly.
“Yeah, right. Everybody that does that usually ends up crying like a little kitty cat.
I’ll take you to Takeru’s room.” Patamon, not sure of what to do, followed dumbly.
Gennai pondered a bit after the two were gone. “So, it’s already started, eh? Well, my time is finally up...” The wizened digital creature clasped something glowing with a pure silver.
“That boy’s destiny will soon awaken.” With a dazzling flash of light, Gennai disappeared from the room, leaving a piece of papyrus to show that anybody was ever there.

Location: a few minutes later, Ishida Residence

The cold winds of Tokyo, Japan, caressed Yamato’s bare chest as he gently stroked Takeru’s quivering body.
“Sshh...It’s gonna be okay, squirt. Don’t worry about anything now, okay?” Sure, they were already teens, but Yamato always protected his little brother, no matter what happened.
“O-Oniisan?” Takeru was slowly calming down, his involuntary jerks ceasing after a few seconds.
“Feel a bit better now, Takeru? Think you can go to sleep again?” A soft nod confirmed his hopes.
Yamato breathed out a sigh of relief. “Good. Now, get to sleep, it’s past midnight.” Closing the door completely, Yamato stood waiting for a few minutes outside Takeru’s door, clearing his own thoughts.
What was he muttering? Something like... ‘Hand of Fate’? Is this what Hikari was telling me about...? His thoughts in a jumble, Yamato finally gave in to his bodily needs and groggily stepped over to his bedroom.
Takeru stayed up until over four o’ clock, thinking over the dream, sloshing the ideas in his head.
He only decided to go to sleep when the rising sun began to shed some light, if only a few rays.
Sleep, without any more dreams.

Author’s Notes: Well, how’s that for prologue? C&C, yadda, yadda, yadda, blah, blah, blah, okay,
here’s the main part of the fic that I want to clear things up: the name translations.
I use the Japanese names in this fic mainly because they sound really cool and I also support unedited original Japanime.
TK - Takeru Takaishi
Kari - Hikari Yagami
Tai - Taichi Yagami
Matt - Yamato Ishida (his mom and dad got divorced, remember; although in the Japanese version they are full brothers, not just half-brothers)
Joe - Joe Kido
Mimi - Mimi Tachikawa
Izzy - Koushiro Izumi
Sora - Sora Takenouchi
Davis - Daisuke Motomiya
Cody: Iori Hida
Yolei: Miyako Inoue
Ken - Ken Ichijouji
I didn’t bother with the Digimon’s names since it, obviously, would’ve taken too long.
I tried that with Pokemon, and that proved to be a total failure.
The teacher, Yamashita-sensei, is just a famous judo expert I did a report on.
And Yosudo is actually the name of a violist I met. R&r would be greatly appreciated, as I know that I can make many more improvements in my writing. Thanx! ^_^

Glossary:
Hai: yes
Sensei: master, teacher, insctructor, etc.
imoto: younger sister
Niichan: cute way of saying older brother, which is ‘Oniisama’ or ‘Oniisan’
