The Word, verily, is greater than name. The Word, in fact, makes known
the Rig Veda, the Yajur Veda, the Sama Veda, the Atharva Veda as the
fourth, and the ancient lore as the fifth: the Veda of Vedas, the ritual
for ancestors, calculus, the augural sciences, the knowledge of the
signs of the times, ethics, political science, sacred knowledge,
theology, knowledge of the spirits, military science, astrology, the
science of snakes and of celestial beings. The Word also makes known
heaven, earth, wind, space, the waters, fire, the Gods, men, animals,
birds, grass and trees, all animals down to worms, insects and ants. It
also makes known what is right and wrong, truth and untruth, good and
evil, what is pleasing and what is unpleasing. Verily, if there were no
Word, there would be knowledge neither of right and wrong, nor of truth
and untruth, nor of the pleasing and unpleasing. The Word makes all this
known. Meditate on the Word.
Sama Veda, Chandogya Upanishads 7.2.1. Vedic Experience, pg. 111

Only by a tranquil mind does one destroy all action, good or bad. Once
the self is pacified, one abides in the Self and attains everlasting
bliss. If the mind becomes as firmly established in Brahman as it is
usually attached to the sense objects, who, then, will not be released
from bondage?
Krishna Yajur Veda, Maitreya Upanishads 6.34. Vedic Experience, pg. 422

Even as water becomes one with water, fire with fire, and air with air,
so the mind becomes one with the Infinite Mind and thus attains final
freedom.
Krishna Yajur Veda, Maitreya Upanishads 6.34.11. TU, 103

He who knows this becomes a knower of the One and of duality, he who has
attained to the oneness of the One, to the self-same nature.
Krishna Yajur Veda, Maitreya Upanishads 6.35. Vedic Experience, pg. 741

For the sake of experiencing the true and the false, the great Self has
a dual nature. Yea, the great Self has a dual nature. Yea, the great
Self has a dual nature!
Krishna Yajur Veda, Maitreya Upanishads 7.11.8. Thirteen Principal
Upanishads, 458

Know that as from a fire laid with green wood, when kindled, clouds of
smoke separately issue forth, so, verily, from this great being has been
breathed forth that which is the Rig Veda, the Yajur Veda, the Sama
Veda, the Atharvans and the Angirasas, legend (itihasa), ancient lore
(purana), sciences (vidya), mystic doctrines (upanishad), verses
(sloka), aphorisms (sutra), explanations (anuvyakhyana) and commentaries
(vyakhyana).
Krishna Yajur Veda, Maitri Upanishad 6.32, Radhakrishnan

When a man, having made his mind perfectly stable, free from attachment
and confusion, enters upon the mindless state, then he attains the
supreme abode.
Krishna Yajur Veda, Maitri Upanishad 6.34, Vedic Experience p. 422

Nonviolence is all the offerings. Renunciation is the priestly
honorarium. The final purification is death. Thus all the Divinities are
established in this body.
Krishna Yajur Veda, Pranagnihotra Upanishads 46 Vedic Experience, pg. 413

The God who is in fire, who is in water, who has entered into the whole
world, who is in plants, who is in trees; to that God be adoration! Yea,
be adoration!
Krishna Yajur Veda, Svetasvatara Upanishad 3.17

There where there is no darkness, nor night, nor day, nor Being, nor

ancient wisdom.

Krishna Yajur Veda, Svetasvatara Upanishad 7.17, The Poems of Tukaram p.
96

Theologians ask: What is the cause? Is it Brahma? Whence are we born?
Whereby do we live? And on what are we established?
Krishna Yajur Veda, Svetasvatara Upanishads 1.1. bo Thirteen Principal
Upanishads, 394

Perishable is matter. Immortal, imperishable the Lord, who, the One,
controls the perishable and also the soul. Meditating on Him, uniting
with Him, becoming more and more like Him, one is freed at the last from
the world illusion.
Krishna Yajur Veda, Svetasvatara Upanishads 1.10. Vedic Experience, pg.
762

When a man knows God, he is free: his sorrows have an end, and birth and

body, then the third world, the world of the Spirit, is found, where the
power of the All is, and man has all; for he is one with the One.
Krishna Yajur Veda, Svetasvatara Upanishads 1.11. The Upanishads, Juan

Find a quiet retreat for the practice of yoga, sheltered from the wind,
level and clean, free from rubbish, smoldering fires and ugliness, and
where the sound of waters and the beauty of the place help thought and

goal of life and becomes free from sorrow.

regulate the vital activities. As a charioteer holds back his restive
horses, so does a persevering aspirant restrain his mind.
Krishna Yajur Veda, Svetasvatara Upanishads 2.9. The Upanishads, Breath
of the Eternal, 192

All the sacred books, all holy sacrifice and ritual and prayers, all the
words of the Vedas, and the whole past and present and future, come from
the Spirit. With maya, His power of wonder, He made all things, and by
maya the human soul is bound. Know, therefore, that nature is maya, but
that God is the ruler of maya, and that all beings in our universe are
parts of His infinite splendor.
Krishna Yajur Veda, Svetasvatara Upanishads 4.9 The Upanishads, Juan
Mascaro, 92

Krishna Yajur Veda, Svetasvatara Upanishads 6.21. The Upanishads, Juan
Mascaro, 97

The supreme mystery in the Veda end, which has been declared in former
times, should not be given to one not tranquil, nor again to one who is
not a son or a pupil. To one who has the highest devotion for God, and
for his spiritual teacher even as for God, to him these matters which
have been declared become manifest if he be a great soul - yea, become
manifest if he be a great soul!
