Mac was still dazed
from the latern impact but managed to say.
"I`m fine mommy
board..."
A lone figure could be seen flying away from the group toward the heart of this new system.
Ping sighed, "I hate when games do this to me....least i hadn't moved in or anything yet"
Kenneth fell into a
slightly stunned sitting position and looked around, "What the... I'm... outside
the game...? Where the hell am I?"
He noticed the others still around, but no
longer game enemies. And then, they started to speak, although he had no idea
what they were talking about. "And who... what the hell are
you?"
Ping looked somewhat worried as he approached Kenneth, "Take it easy. Take a few deep breaths." He was a few feet from Kenneth when he stopped, "What's the last thing you remember?"
"I... I was at my computer, and I was trying to put my mind in a game... and I woke up, and I was there, and I found a portal to Zelda, and when I won... I was here, and the game sprites, and you, and... and... what the hell is this?" he seemed to only just notice the silver gauntlet on his arm.
"wait wait
wait..your...a....user!?"
Macs jaw dropped to as far as it could go,he
couldn`t beleive what he was seeing and hearing, mind you he expected a bit
more.
He blinked, "Yes...?"
Ping looked a bit taken aback, "A...a....Us-Oh C'mon you have GOT to be kidding me. How gullible do I look?! That's no more a User than I am a Virus." He glared to Kenneth, "Do we look that stupid to you?"
He furrowed his brow in confusion. "No...?" he offered pathetically.
Ping glares, "If
you're a User, prove it."
"I don't think that's such a-"
"I
didn't ask you," He rounded on the passing binome, "What's the worst that could
happen?"
"He gets angry at you not believing him and deletes
you?"
"......"
"Delete...?"
His
gauntlet glowed for a moment, and a small, rectangular delete command
materialized in that hand. There was a readout with the number 5, which began
counting down with a rythmic beep. Even to him, it was fairly obvious what it
was for. On pure geek reflex, he shouted "Ah! Undo! Undo!" and the process
happened in reverse.
Ping blinked, "What....just happened?" He curiousely took a glance at the wrist gauntlet.
"I... I actually
don't know myself..."
((for the record, it's actually the kind of
gauntlet that goes up to [and on the outside, a little past] the elbow. Also,
here's what his icon looks like))
Ping sighed and took another look around, "I think I know what system we've landed in."
"....."
Mac
was slowly taking everything in from the past few moments before
sighing.
"I needs whiskey, that`ll solve all my problems"
"no it won't, but its a good place to start running from them with." Ping echoed the other man's sigh. "Anyway if this is where I think we are then the nearest boozer is down that way," he gestures to a nearby road, "after the third left go straight till you reach the seconed intersection and turn right, Mick's Place, can't miss it."
No one was really
sure why the mod had decided to stay silent until someone took a head
count.
"Er... Where's Mr. Font?" That person said, looking
around.
"Think it was a litte too much for him." Mac replied in his thick
accent. Even though he was shaken up, he leaned over Click's fainted form and
whispered in a high voice: "Dearie, it's time for proccessing school... come on,
get up, you're gonna be late."
Click pushed the chuckling renegade aside
and stood up.
"Okay, I have assesed the situation." He began, "That's a
user alright. Trust me, I can tell. Users are a type of technology that maintain
the net. They're kinda like artificial intelligence. The catch is, we have to
keep them entertained with things like games and messaging
systems."
"Well that makes sense," Ping rubbed his chin, "I think I heard
somewhere that Users are like janitors."
"'Janitor' is a good word for a
user, except they are really really powerful janitors. Something must have went
wrong in the system, because their actions sometimes appear to happen in the
interest of entertainment or even just whims." Click replied gibly.
((psst... remember,
if scanned or anythin', he'd show up as an AI game sprite, like AndrAIa...
Macro, however, is connected to the system, which game him a system icon,
similar to how AndrAIa was pulled out with Enzo's icon))
Kenneth stood up,
and turned to Click, who (now) seemed the most sure of himself. "Okay... it's
obvious 'user' means something different to me than it does for you... but I
don't think I can tell you what I am unless I know what you are, or where I am.
I mean, I know what I am, but I can't relate that to what you are unless I know
both."
Ping sighed, "I never was good at lessons but..." He shrugged. "There are millions of systems spread across the net. Each system is supposed to have one or more Guardians," He motions to Click, "Or mods, for the moment the difference is a moot point however so I won't go into further detail," Mostly because he didn't know." Every so often GAmes will drop in from On High. If we win everything's cool, life goes on. However if the User wins the whole sector is nullified...and everyone in it." He looks a bit unfocused for a seconed there, "There are...ways...to avoid this but...moving on. However there are also System upgrades that drop down from time to time at the User's discression." he see's the look on Kennith's face, "None of this is making sense to you is it?"
Incredible...
"Er... I think I sort of do... but I don't really
get how it works, it really shouldn't be possible... but, anyway, the world I
come from is much different... for one thing, people have skin tones like mine,
or some far darker. There's pretty much one whole world, though large parts are
divided by oceans into continents. Er... but the world is a sphere, called a
planet, and it orbits around a sun, along with several others, and that sun is
one of many billions in space that also have planets around them, though we've
never visited them, and... eh... I bet this makes even less sense to
you..."
"Actually, that sounds like quite a lot of games"
"...oh... I
guess that makes sense. Anyway, our computers have nothing like this... mostly
fairly simple programs, and the interface is just a screen, with text or a GUI,
and a mouse or keyboard. Noone had any idea something like this... even
could exist."
"yea well..sum
people doubted Users even exsisted,I`m gonna go make my final decision after
crawling into a bottle for a few hours, later"
Shifting the weight of his
giant Claymore onto his other shoulder Mac headed off to the pub, skidding to a
halt at the bar.
"whiskey....ello ain`t got all day"
"I`m sorry
sir but last call has passed"
Closing his eyes slowly Mac leans forward
and drags the Bartender by the throat up close to his face.
"Now,listen
here mate,if you don`t give me,a bottle of whiskey,I`ll punch yer fucking head
in"
"y-y-yes sir"
(Click can't scan
his way out af a paper bag. He recognized Kenneth's icon. They teach you a lot
more in Moderation Training than at the Gaurdian Academy, including some theory
and philosophy regarding the mysterious users.)
Click ran a hand through
his hair thoughtfully. "Well, one trainee in my class beleived that instead of
we being the ones who created the users, they created
us. Of course, he went crazy and went on a rampage, but.."
Ping
and Kenneth exchanged looks.
Click became more involed with his story;
getting increasingly dramatic:
"He said strange things.. Crazy... even. The
kind of things that woke you up in a cold sweat in the night, when their meaning
finally dawns on you...." He paused for a moment. Kenneth motioned to Ping for
an explination, but Ping just shrugged. Click continued. "I.. I was the one who
had to kill him. You know what the last thing he said to me was? It
was--"
Click was cut off by blaring sirens from the right.
"Typical, when it gets importaint the speaker gets cut off by an emergancy..or dying." Ping started walking in a seemingly random direction, "Well, standing here is getting us nowhere. I know where we are, my place is open for the moment."
"Aren't we going to investigate?" Click pointed in the direction of the sirens.
"Why bother? Its just another bust. You do as you wish Moderator, but I'm going to collect a few things I was forced to leave behind then I'm gone." Ping keeps walking.
It never failed. As
soon as trouble was spotted Kilobyte appeared on the scene. Several binome cops
were surrounding two virii that had been causing a ruckus. Kilobyte took down a
few of the cops, providing a distraction that allowed the two cornered virii to
take down the others.
"You two!" Kilobyte called out. "Follow me unless
you want to be captured by a mod."
The two virii hesitated amoment and
then followed Kilobyte into the shadows.
(OOC: The two virii look like
Slash and Flea from Chrono Trigger and their names are Legato and Allegro
respectively.)
"IF YOUSE TAKE DE
IGH ROAD,DEN I`LL TAKE DA LOW,AN I`LL BE IN SCOTLAND,AFORE,YOU!!"
Several
of the bar patrons holding their hands over their head, one of them looking at
the bar man as Mac sung swinging a bottle of whiskey on top of the bar top along
with swinging his claymore madly.
"can`t you do anything about
him?"
"I would but he hasn`t let go of that sword"
Ping stopped and
frowned at the scene in front of him. "Naturally..." The route he had to take
just so happened to be blocked by the commotion.
"Legato,
Allegro..."
The female looking Virii looked right at Ping.
"What
have we here....long time no see MPEG, back for more?"
Ping gulped before
grabbing his zip board and running for the hills.
ooc: Allegro and Ping
have something of a history.
Click's hand
reached out of a portal and grabbed Legato by the throat, and pulled the virus
through.
Disoriented, Legato could only blink before getting his face
punched in.
"I am sick-" *Wack!* "-and tired-" *Smack!* "-of all these
God. Damn. Viruses."
Click reached back for another blow but by that time
Allegro caught up with him. She let him know with the heel of her
boot.
Click rolled foreward and brought Legato in between himself and the
other virus. Allegro leapt onto the side of a building and aimed a click for the
moderator's gut, but ended up smacking Legato upside the head.
Click
disposed of his sheild and landed a left hook on Allegro. She backflipped,
bringing her feet up in a swift kick, but Click slid under her and smashed his
fist in the middle of her spine. She went limp, and Click tossed her aside.
Legato recovered and screamed in rage, charging at Click. Suddenly, he was 50
feet up, a white portal of static closing behined him.
"I'm doing a
little spring cleaning." Click said coldy, "No virus will be spared."
As soon as the game
landed and he changed back, Pixel immediately fled the system, he never liked to
linger after being sighted. However, upon arriving at the new system, he started
to wander down a street and was greeted by a... less than encouraging
sight.
Kenneth stood off to the side, having followed Click. He still
wasn't sure what to do, though he was getting an idea of what a virus was. A
sprite walked up and watched the battle, entranced and somewhat
horrified.
After realizing his
presuer had in fact chosen not to Ping puttered back to where he saw Allegro.
Spotting Kennith and another sprite he frowned at what else he
saw.
"Damnit, knew this'd happen." He saw Allegro laying face first on
the ground.
Kilobyte appeared stealthily and plunged his sword into Click. Instead of deleting the moderator it simply drained him of some energy. The virus then helped up his compatriots and the three of them faced their opponents.
Ping looked to the mod and nodded, standing just behind Click's righthand side. "For what it's worth, I'm here moderator." his left hand's hovering right at one of the many pockets on his belt.
Click recovered
from the blow and rubbed his back where he had been stabbed. Then he gave ping a
quick nod.
"Good. I've only got two eyes." He said, then clenched and
unclenched his fists. "Let's get to work."
He charged, holding out his
gauntlet and opening a portal. But instead of going through it he ducked under
it and used his momentum to slide under the enemies and get behind
them.
Ping threw the object from his belt at the three, causing a very bright flash allowing him to cut to their left before circling around behind Allegro.
Click leaned back and kicked Legato in the face, then spun around and backhanded Kilobyte. Hard.
Kennith turned to
the sprite beside him, "Um, hi, could you tell me-"
"HWAAAA!!" Pixel
immediately panicced, turned, and ran screaming from the fight.
Kennith
sighed, this is gonna be a looong day.
"Miss me?" Ping had
the lady virus in a headlock briefly before she, with very little effort, threw
him to the ground.
"No, but i bet wished you'd never
left."
"Perhaps, Ping stood, "C'mon, i know you've got more than this,
why hold back? Why not go for the throat?" a welding torch was in his left hand
as a hammer sprang into his left.
<lame but...feh...>
Click swung again but Kilobyte had dissapeared. He searched the area, but to no avail.
