Animal welfare is a slightly less extreme sect of animal rights. They work in and often boast about what they call 'rescue'. They don't sell animals, they 'adopt' them out...for a fee, of course.

Come on now, money is still changing hands, and adoption is for kids, not pets.

The only sincere rescue is saving an animal from immediate danger, such as drowning, eating something poisonous, getting injured in an accident or fight with another animal.

But the 'rescue' animal welfare does and regularly brags about is:

People taking animals from homes, then turning around and claiming to have 'rescued' them from abuse.

People who buy animals then claim they 'rescued' them from abuse.

People who engage in the raiding of family homes of their pets and hide their crimes under the mantle of 'rescue' while falsely accusing the family of animal abuse.

People who support the animal raiders.

People who think they can dictate what we keep where and when.

People who - while they may honestly have rescued an animal - they brag about it. And saying "I do rescue" or "I rescued this animal" is bragging even if the rescue itself started out sincere.

People who get all hot under the collar and start arrogantly ranting on their animal rights soapbox "You don't care for the animals!" Every time 'rescue' is called into question.

If We Didn't Care

Many ar people do work in rescues and shelters. That doesn't mean everyone who does is ar. But most turn out to support ar positions in one way or another. It's unfortunate the ars have taken over and contaminated that industry. An animal welfare person can participate in an animal raid and spreading vicious gossip full of false accusations of abuse, without being a vegan or PEta supporter. And they do.

I used to call myself part of 'animal welfare' but no more, I'm not one of those swellheaded prigs that needs to 'rescue' some animal from a non-abusive owner to make myself feel taller.
