PORPOISE
You arrived near midnight
Flopped over dead on the floor
I tried so hard to revive you
But you were just too far gone
Such a waste of beauty and grace
Now, you seem so out of place
How can this have happened
So much energy depleted
So much breath unused
And I can't change a thing
I tried to give you air
You puked up something
I'm not sure just what
I tried to jumpstart your heart
But I didn't know where to search
I'll just leave you where you perch
How could this have happened
So much beauty destroyed
So much grace disgraced
And I can't change a thing
Now you lie bleeding on the floor
From a hole in your side
You were caught in a web you couldn't understand
And there was no way out
The gurgle from your blowhole
Must have been the evaporation of your soul
How did this happen
So much grandeur repossessed
So much awe withdrawn
And I can't change a thing
For the purpose of saving this porpoise
