Getting FreeBSD 6.2

FreeBSD iso images can be downloaded from ftp.freebsd.org/pub/images. You need to download disc1.iso. Disc2.iso is an optional CD that contains extra packages that you can install. Even with a fast internet connection, it may take some time to finish downlaoding the file. You should use an ftp downloading program like filezilla so that you can easily restart the download where it left off if it gets interrupted for any reason.

After you have downloaded the iso file you must burn the image onto a CD. You will need CD writing software that burns images. Do not burn the iso file as a data disk. If you have Nero ahead you will be able to burn an image. If you do not have the software to burn an image file, download the freeware program ISO Recorder. ISO recorder runs on Windows XP and will automatically associate itself with .iso files. Therefore, all you have to do after you install is follow the steps below:

1. Download the ISO image to a folder on your computer.

2. Put a blank CD in the CD drive.

4.Right-click on the ISO file, then click Copy image to CD.

5. When the ISO Recorder Wizard opens follow the steps in the wizard to write the image to the CD.

You you finish burning the image, you should have a bootable CD from which you can install FreeBSD. If you want to try FreeBSD first without installing, download and burn the ISO file for TrueBSD. TrueBSD is a liveCD distribution of FreeBSD6.2.
