UC Santa Cruz

The University of California, Santa Cruz, opened in 1965. Santa Cruz is situated at the north end of the Monterrey Bay.
Santa Cruz is generally regarded as a very liberal city. Its citizens have elected a socialist mayor. Its city government is dominated by the Santa Cruz Action Network (SCAN), a liberal organization that derives its strength from the University of California at Santa Cruz. The student population at UC Santa Cruz tends toward liberalism and rivals Berkeley for its political activism.
