| 1. Mix 4 1/4oz pure dry KN03 with 30 fluid drops of sulphuric acid. 2. Mix in enough cotton balls so that all liquid is soaked up. 3. Leave to stand for 2 hours in a safe place with a glass or ceramic cover. 4. Carefully remove cotton balls from acid and wash under tap-water for up to 10 minutes constantly squeezing. It is very important that ALL acid is washed out. Continue washing until you are sure all acid is washed out( a test with litmus can be done to be sure). 5. Let cotton dry completely. When cotton is dry it is ready for use. Cotton will burn so fast that it can be held in your hand and not even felt. Cotton explodes with loud report if hit with a hammer on an anvil. If compressed and confined in strong case cotton becomes highly explosive. If set off in such a manner with a detonator it will explode with tremendous violence. Nitrocellulose is classified as a high explosive. Products of Explosion are: Carbon dioxide Carbon monoxide Hydrogen Nitrogen Methane WARNING: IF A YELLOW OR BROWN COULOR APPEARS DURING NITRATION OF COTTON TAKE COTTON AWAY IMMEDIATELY AND WAIT FOR REACTION. |
