Reverent Family Dinner

Report

A Little Welcome

April 9, 2004

This was the biggest family dinner I have ever been to. We had a large turnout. People from other families also showed up. There was too much food to eat. Now let me start from the beginning…
Cheryl Wong felt guilty for not appearing at any of the APO events in the Spring semester, so she decided to make it up by hosting a dinner for the Reverent Family. Her apartment complex, the North, was the most elegant setting for such a gathering to take place. Visitors have described it as a hotel/resort, and with the rent going upwards from $1,700 per month, any bank book would agree.  It is not anywhere that you see hanging gardens, statues ejaculating water, open well-groomed grassland, arches, outdoor gas-powered barbecues and fireplaces, multiple pools and Jacuzzis, outdoor murals, Spanish architecture, and the serenity of a peaceful community. It is even more surprising to find it in the edge of San Jose. Seeing this place is like visiting another country.
The purpose of this dinner was to welcome the new little siblings of the Reverent Family. The family originally had 8 little siblings this semester, but two dropped out. Only Ky, Joe, Jerald, and Christina Penn were the pledges who attended that night. Other people needed to visit their families, had headaches, or had a party to go to.
Ben and I were the first people to arrive at the scene. Cheryl wanted to start the event at 4pm, so we went there early. However, we went there so early that we did some studying. Then Carol showed up and her excess energy invaded our skin. Carol was not able to make it to the last dinner (BSReverent) and she could not remember why.  With her around, we could talk and socialize. A lot has happened since the Thanksgiving dinner. We found out that her boyfriend became her ex and that she moved to another place.  One of her former roommates is now 6 months pregnant. The residents worry for her because even though she is a nutritionist, she does not really eat healthy food. That roommate has since moved somewhere else and Carol does not contact her anymore. Cheryl and Carol agree that it is good to be single, and for men, it good to have extra money in the wallet. But still, that Mustang driver was a cool dude.
Julie was lost, and I was sorry that I could not help her. I thought that she would not bring hot dog buns, so I asked Reed to bring them. I probably misheard her say “no” when she really said “I know” when I asked her to buy buns. Julie eventually went back to get Yman and he then drove Julie to Cheryl’s place. Many other folks, including Barney and Joe, were at the softball game where Alpha Phi Omega emerged victorious due to a disqualification of the opposing team. Many other people appeared from that game, including Vashti, Huong, Theo, Mike Huen, and Angelique. Mariecris was unable to come because she was involved in a car accident and had to go to the hospital. Thankfully, she recovered well enough to go home later in the night.
It was also Good Friday, so I had to make sure that there were enough vegetarian dishes available for those religious people. Fortunately, there was enough food for all types of people. We had only one loaf of bread, yet it was enough to feed everyone. Ben, Richwood, and Kyla were the only people to go swimming in the pool and Jacuzzi. Reed would have swum too, but he was afraid that the women would get excited after seeing his hunky body. But seriously, he thought that it was too cold to swim, despite having a heated pool. Reed also brought chicken like I asked him to, but nobody cooked and ate it because we were all full.
Long invited the Clean Family over. Only Kathy Tran with her make-over haircut arrived. Judy Chiu simply had to see her long-missed family. I talked her about her experience at the University of Pacific. I found out that she was the Secretary and Public Relations officer. She was partially responsible for AAXi’s newsletter. Thus, she has a lot of experience in this field, which I am new at. It is good to have her on our newsletter team. She is not a newsletter committee member for Gamma Beta, but she is willing to help.
Michael Baron likes playing the game, 10 fingers, where everyone reveals their darkest secrets and wanted the pledge class to play, but it is not good to haze anyone. Instead, we played Cranium (a game Julie forgot to bring, but fortunately Cheryl had in her apartment). The Dwayne Hearn class swept the board and beat the senior teams by a great distance. (‘sigh’, if we only had a better artist.) In a great surprise, the white shadow appeared. Ernie came to check up on the fraternity and was satisfied at what he saw.
Cheryl had plans to move to her old home, so she wanted to take the opportunity to utilize the complex’s facilities, and that she did. She deserves a special thanks for bringing us all together. Another thanks goes to all the residents of the North for tolerating our presence.
