Reverent Family Dinner
Report
Thanksgiving Theme
November 25, 2003
I was informed in the email that the Reverent family dinner was to begin at 6pm. I went to Carol's house at around 6:05pm. The only members at the house were Carol and I. Even Carol's boyfriend came before the other fraternity members (Awww. 'blush' 'blush'). Now, I did not remember who Carol was, since she is an inactive member. The last time I probably saw her was at the taco night at Pearl's place. Inactive is perhaps the most incorrect way to describe Carol. She appeared to be an eight-year-old trapped in a college student's body. Anything can make her excited. When the door bell rings, she jumps up and down and her face illuminates with glee. She scurries to the door to open it and says "Hi" in a loud voice, whomever it may be.
Anyways, I got to Carol's house by walking because I had to buy napkins at Albertons (and get my membership card). I could have went to Richwood's place to get a ride but I knew that the cooking of the turkey was delayed: Richwood's oven did not work, so the turkey sat in the place for an extended time period. When I got to her house, I made some phone calls to see if and when other people would be coming. Unfortunately, the pledge members of the club had a special practice session for their activation performance. I neglected to bring plates because I was hoping Anna would bring the plates saved from yesterday, but it did not happen. Thankfully, one of the roommates of the house had extra plates and we used those (God bless them, every one of them). No matter, Anna and Julie's job was to pitch in for the turkey, which they did. Later, some more people came like Ben (who wished he was still dancing) Anna, Michael Baron, Kyla, Roy,
Mariecris, Marissa, Julie, etc. Once established, we tried to play a game. Carol was cooking chicken in the kitchen while Michael revealed some of his deepest secrets to us, which a cannot reveal. Due to the technicalities of the suggested game (as usual, sex was brough up very often), Michael was the only person playing it.
Back to the turkey dilemma, I heard that a lot of people were involved in cooking it: Long, Richwood, Reed, Michael Huen and Theo. So we are all sitting in the living room waiting for the turkey watching Charmed on TNT. Of course, not may people paid attention to the TV (I was, however. Alyssa Milano is HOT!). Then some people decided to play Alpha Phi Omega trivia. With the help of Baron, we prepared for the final exam. Anna impressed us with her acumen to the pledge classes of previous generations. I broke out my trusty family tree and it was immediately seized by other people ("Let me see, let me see").
After Charmed was over, I turned off the TV. Huen and I saw SNES games at the base of the television. Once I saw Turtles in Time, I just had to play. We started kicking shell on the television screen. Camarillo brought drinks. Ernie made an unexpected visit. And finally, the turkey came, but it was well worth the wait. The turkey was big, plump and juicy, just like anyone can dream of. We cleaned up the table to make room for this most esteemed guest of honor. Of course, it was the hostess Carol who did the honors of saying grace and getting the first cut in the turkey.
Sadly, Andrea could not attend, but Yman showed up despite stating that he could
not before, so that was cool
Then after that, I had to leave. I had to finish my statistics homework and programming assignment. I was about to walk home until Carol became worried about me walking home at night by myself. Thus, Carol's boyfriend offered to drive me back to school in his Mustang (I tried hard to avoid hitting my head on the roof). Carol's boyfriend was quite curious about Alpha Phi Omega. So I tried to address his questions to the best of my knowledge. One question that perplexed me was his "get-together" question: is this fraternity a typical place where people hook up? From my observations, I could only identify 3 real romantic puppy-love couples within the fraternity (they know who they are). Everyone else is just friends. Perhaps you, the reader, can answer that question. If you would like to share your answer with others, you can email me a response and put it on this website at
