On gluttony
Go to any restaurant, look in any one of their trash bins. What will you find? The most common thing that you always find is food. In the United States of America, we have an oversupply of food. This means that food is affordable, and when combined with abundant wealth, will result in the consumption of lots of food. Everybody enjoys eating food. For some people, it is a form of entertainment. However, one must think about who is telling you to eat so much food? Why do you need to eat more food than necessary? To find out the answer, look to your wallet. What do you see? Assuming you have money, you will notice that there is money in your wallet. Who wants that money? Everybody wants it. One way to persuade you give it them is to offer you something to stimulate your taste buds. Like the suckers you are, you fall for it and pay money to buy food you do not really need. Many times you buy more food than you can swallow. That is OK for the food vendors, since they will make more money from you. If you cannot finish your food, you either take it home or throw it away. If you are on a diet, you probably did not plan to finish your food in the first place, but then why buy so much food in the first place? Because you want to bite more than you can chew. It is this impulse that initiates the act of gluttony. We know eating obesity is bad for you, yet it is quite common. Some people cannot fully control what they put into their mouths, yet they know what they are doing is not for the betterment of their life. Even while there are starving people elsewhere in this country, we still consume much food. It is not quite a selfish act, but rather a feeling inherited by the society. Everybody wants to be above other people, and eating more food is one way of achieving status. Few people eat to live, the rest live to eat.
