Fountains of Blessings
Sometimes we're so busy going & doing that we don't stop to recognize how weary, dry, & dusty we are. We fail to recognize our great need for refreshment.
My mother wrote of such an experience while she was struggling to know God's presence in the midst of everyday living. She saw her need - found her answer - in a simple illustration from the God who shows His presence & love in unusual ways. Mother is home now, forever in God's presence, but she left behind "A Fountain of Blessing."
"It was a hot day, I had finished moving the sprinkler close to the back fence when I saw a tiny green hummingbird heading in the direction of the cascading water. I stood motionless, watching in surprise as the bird flew straight into the spray. Instead of whizzing on through as I expected, the bird suddenly reversed its engines & hovered under the umbrella of water."
"Ignoring my presence, my little friend leisurely turned from side to side, exposing every portion of his hot & dusty little body to the cool & cleansing water. Finally satisfied, he went back to work, & I went back into the house to ponder my deep emotional reaction to that scene."
"I wasn't just watching. I was identifying with the hummingbird's obvious delight as he abandoned himself to the cooling water. His was no accidental encounter. That sharp-eyed little bird recognized the source of blessing & deliberately aimed for it. Instead of rushing on through, he lingered long enough to receive the full blessing of the fountain of water."
"God spoke to me through one of the tiniest of His creatures. His presence is here for me the way that fountain of water was for the hummingbird. Just as David proclaimed in Psalm 16:11, God was showing me that I only need to recognize & enter into His presence, the fountain of living water, & abide until I experience "fullness of joy!"

Thou wilt make known to me the path of life; In Thy presence is fullness of joy; In Thy right hand there are pleasures forever. Psalm 16:11
