Inizjamed has lately expanded its operations by taking to the radio waves. Together with the Voice of the Mediterranean, which broadcasts cultural and entertaining programmes worldwide, Inizjamed is currently familiarising listeners from Russia to South Africa with writers and musicians from the Mediterranean.

"Contemporary Mediterranean Writers" gives brief but detailed looks at popular writers like Naguib Mahfouz (in picture, right), Ronit Matalon, Tony Hanania and Maria Ortese (in picture, below), but also at authors from countries whose literature is less-known, such as Macedonia, Palestine and Turkish Cyprus. Several excerpts from their prose and poetry, some biographical and historical notes and in-depth interviews with the authors themselves make discovering the Mediterranean's written stories fun!

Producer Karsten Xuereb (in picture, right), who is also embarking on a musical voyage of the Mediterranean, says 'I've got to know so many artists and interesting people throughout the three series of "Contemporary Mediterranean Writers", and now it's off with musicians. It all sounds like a huge bazaar of ideas floating along the Mediterranean shores. And whoever wants to join aboard is very welcome!

Kartsten Xuereb's programme on "Music in the Mediterranean" starts in June and will include a selection of wonderful musical from all over the Mediterranean and contributions on the ethnomusicology of the region by Philip Ciantar who lectures on the subject at the University of Malta.

This partnership between the Voice of the Mediterranean radio station, and the mediterranean cultural organization Inizjamed was made possible through the adventurous spirits of Victoria Galea from VOM and Karsten Xuereb. The aims of the two organizations tie in well with each other and there is scope for further meaningful collaboration.
