The Med2000 LAG (Third World Group) and Koperattiva Kummerc Gust are organising Worldfest on the occasion of the first ever World Fair Trade Day.  The day is being held to celebrate Fair Trade and to tell the world about it, to honour the achievements of grassroots farmers and craftspeople who create quality products for the market, and to tell consumers how their spending power can make a difference and contribute to sustainable development.  Worldfest is supported by Inizjamed, St. Michael Foundation and Ritmi.

“Re-use Centre” - the public is encouraged to deposit unwanted gifts and books.

Seminars and Activities

Seminar on Global Citizenship Education and Fair Trade for Primary School teachers.  Free educational resources will be distributed.

11.00 a.m.

Seminar on Global Citizenship Education and Fair Trade for Secondary School teachers.  Free educational resources will be distributed.

12.00 a.m.

Clementina Carbone, Head Teacher of ISV de Paoli (Reggio Calabria), will share the experience of an innovative successful student cooperative Nosotros.  The school canteen, run by the students, has chosen to sell fair-traded foodstuffs instead of products marketed by multinational companies.

Open to the general public, but specially directed towards teachers involved in SCOOPS and school leaders.

Seminar: Fair Trade in a Globalized Economy

Open to Civil Society Organizations and the general public.

Speakers: Stefano Magnoni, coordinator of Chico Mendes, a leading Italian Fair Trade Organisation, and Anna Bucca, president of ARCI, Catania.

6.00 p.m.

Musical celebration featuring Renzo Spiteri and the Ritmi drum circle.
