Adults Writing for Children

a Practical Course

Inizjamed, in collaboration with the Department of Maltese of the University of Malta, is  organizing an intensive course of ten two-hour sessions for those who would like to write stories for children aged 10-12 years. The course started on Tuesday 25 September and is being held every Tuesday between 6.30pm and 8.30pm for ten consecutive weeks at the Mikiel Anton Vassalli Conference Centre at the University of Malta.

(See also Thankyou Inizjamed!)

This is an intensive course that will give a close look at the works of classic and contemporary writers, both Maltese and foreign. Moreover, the participants will be fully involved and assisted in the writing of their own original works. They will have the opportunity to remember childhood moments, narrate their own personal anecdotes, write stories for children, read their own works, analyse them, learn from the feedback they receive and inspire themselves to improve their writing.

The course is being held in Maltese and speakers include Trevor Zahra (in photo above), Charles Casha (in the photo), Carmel G. Cauchi, Jesmond Bonnici,  Sandro Spiteri, Mario Cassar and Miriam Teuma amongst others. Ms. Azzopardi is coordinating this creative writing course on behalf of Inizjamed.

Since this is an intensive course in which all sessions are tightly knit together and the writers will be deeply involved, participants are expected to attend all sessions. The course fee is Lm20, and at the end of the course a certificate will be presented to all those who perform well.

Participants will be entitled to a 25% discount on the books they buy from a leading publisher and seller of children’s books during the ten weeks of the course. This publisher will also be publishing a collection of stories written by the participants during the period of the course.

For more information please contact Clare Azzopardi or Ritianne Gatt, who designed the course layout together with Trevor Zahra and Adrian Grima, by sending a message to Inizjamed. The application form is also available on Inizjamed's website.

Places are limited. All those who are eighteen years and over who would like to write for children (even if they have never written any literature before) are invited to apply as early as possible. The application form together with a cheque addressed to 'Inizjamed' should be sent to Inizjamed, att. Karsten Xuereb, Lapsi Court, Fl. 6, Lapsi Street, St Julians, STJ 08.
