Korban tewas pada bentrokan antarkelompok di Jl AY
Patti, Ambon, Rabu, hingga kini berjumlah 15 orang,
terdiri atas 13 orang warga masyarakat dan dua aparat
keamanan, sedangkan Komandan Sektor Pengamanan I
Maluku, Kol Inf Irwan Kusnadi menderita luka berat
karena tertembak di pipi. Dari Ambon, Rabu sore,
wartawan ANTARA melaporkan bahwa Kol Inf Irwan Kusnadi
bersama enam pengawalnya tertembak ketika sedang
mengamankan pertikaian di Jl AY Patti, tiba-tiba ada
tembakan dari arah Gedung Walikota Madya Ambon yang
mengena pipi Irwan Kusnadi.
Irwan Kusnadi menderita luka berat dan akan di
terbangkan ke Jakarta untuk mendapatkan perawatan.
Kepala Penerangan Kodam XV Patimura Letkol Iwa Budiman
ketika dihubungi ANTARA, di Ambon, Rabu, membenarkan
peristiwa penembakan yang menimpa Komandan Sektor
Pengamanan I Maluku Kol Inf Irwan Budiman tersebut.
Sementara dua orang aparat yang meninggal akibat
terkena tembakan, yakni Kopda Safari (28) dari
Batalyon Kostrad 303 dan Sertu Pol Alfian Hasanudi
(19) yang tertembak di Jl AM Sangaji, Ambon.
Sekretaris Eksekutif Posko MUI Maluku, Malik Selan
yang dihubungi ANTARA menyatakan, bentrokan
antarkelompok di Jl AY Patti, Ambon, menewakan 12
orang dari kelompok putih dan luka berat dari kelompok
yang sama mencapai 40 orang. Sedangkan, korban di
pihak kelompok merah yakni satu tewas dan delapan
orang luka berat. Direktur RS Al Fatah Ambon, Dr P
Suryaman mengatakan, rata-rata korban meninggal dunia
akibat terkena peluru tajam pada kepala, perut, dada
dan leher. Situasi kota Ambon saat ini tampak lumpuh
yang ditandai perkantoran tutup, pasar tampak sepi,
dan jalan-jalan raya di blokade aparat.

15 KILLED, 50 INJURED IN FRESH RIOTS IN AMBON

Ambon, Maluku, May 17 (ANTARA) - The toll in the fresh
riots that broke out over a hit-and-run accident here
Tuesday has reached 15 dead and 50 injured.
The riots, which centered at the border between
Mardika and Batu Merah districts, continued until
Wednesday.
Gunfires and bomb explosions were still heard. Five
houses caught fire, possibly due to molotov cocktails
and homemade bombs.
The conflict was triggered when a truck fled after
running over an 18-year-old boy, identified as Nyong
Ferdinandus, in Larier village, Baguala subdistrict
here.
Killed in the riots were 13 civilians and 2
servicemen, most of whom sustained gunshot wounds in
the head, neck and chest.
ANTARA reported that the victims as well as those
wounded in the riots tried to enter areas blockaded by
the military and those where snipers were stationed.
According to the local chapter of the Indonesian
Ulemas Council (MUI) and the Protestant Church
Hospital, most of the victims were shot by security
personnel trying to pacify the riots.
Those who died in the riots were identified as Agus
Muskita (23), Mohamad Silehu (25), Aliadi Watimury
(18), Aftal Daeng Ngawi (32), Solaeman Uma Gapi (28),
Zulkifli Suadn (15), Amir Bugis (24), Forman (20),
Adam Tutupoho (20), Yusuf (37), Mohamad Aris (25),
Corporal Nurdin Safari (28) who is a member of the
Garut-based Army Infantry Unit, and Sgt Alfian
Hasanussy (19).
Those injured were brought to the Al Fatah Hospital,
the Protestant Church Hospital and the Bhakti Rahayu
Hospital.
Only a few offices and schools opened Wednesday,
although some street vendors continued to sell their
wares.
Public transportation, including "becak" (tricycles)
and "ojek" (motorcycles for hire), were seen operating
as usual. Some of them were seen looking for gasoline
and fuel oil.
"We go on as usual because we are already accustomed
to such situation. But we have to be careful when
passing streets prone to shooting," public
transportation driver, Polyn Likumahua, said.
Some streets were still blocked in anticipation of
people using cars to launch attacks.
Report to president
Meanwhile, President Abdurrahman Wahid is scheduled to
meet with Maluku Governor Latuconsina and some
military and police officials, including Pattimura
provincial military command chief, Brig Gen Max
Tamaela, and Maluku Police chief, Brig Gen Dewa
Astika, on Wednesday afternoon.
"They will report the latest development in the
province," spokesman of the Maluku provincial
administration, Cak Saimima, said.
