Accomplice of sword wielding person threatens East London mosque
An accomplice of a person who broke into the Whitechapel Mosque in east
London yesterday morning has threatened to take revenge against the mosque
committee when he visited the premises yesterday evening, reports The
Muslim News. The latest incidence follows an arson attack on Central London
Mosque on May 4, when intruders set fire to the premises.
Yesterday early morning an unknown person, now believed to be an Algerian
in late thirties, broke into Whitechaple Mosque and claimed to have come to
"protect the mosque against the kuffar (nono-Muslims)". He later started
wielding a sword and tried unsuccessfully to attack one of the mosque's
committee members. The police cordoned off the area and managed to disarm
him at about 1.10 pm. No one was hurt. However, some sections of the mosque
have been closed for security reasons.
Yesterday at maghrib (evening prayers) time, a white person asked the
mosque committee members the whereabouts of the person who had broke into
the mosque that morning. He was told that he arrested by the police. On
hearing this he told the committee members he would return to take revenge.
He did not specify what, said a committee member.
The mosque has increased its security and are expecting more trouble and
will be asking the police for more protection.
