Welcome to Team Smelly DIY!

It hasn't been too long for me to remember when I didn't know a socket from an allen bolt. I know what it's like getting into doing your own wrenching on a bike, especially if you have no prior mechanical experience. Two things helped me tremendously: taking a bike maintenance class and buying a service manual.

But of course there's more to it than just following instructions in a book. Most manuals only have black and white photos, sometimes they have typos, and often times the thing just doesn't tell you the whole story. When I think about all the pesky little problems I've had to solve that weren't covered in a manual, all the home made tools I've fashioned because I didn't want to buy a specialty tool that would only work on one bike and was expensive, and just all kinds of tricks that make your life easier, I realized it'd be nice to have some illustrated generic instructions like that -- a supplement to your manual with color photos and some tricks that the book doesn't show you.

So that's what I'm trying to do here. This is just the beginning. I hope you find it useful. Regardless of whether you do or not, you're encouraged to leave some feedback by sending me an email at inline_four@yahoo.com
