KERRANG!
Mag: July 17th 'Rising' Section
Reviewed
By: Kerrang!'s Paul Travers (again)
YOU
CAN blame Tool for the resurgence of prog rock. The success and
plaudits bestowed upon the Californian enigma-machines are
indirectly the reasons why a teenage three-piece from Essex, who
should by rights be young enough to be blissfully unaware of the
very existence of Roger Walters, are naming Pink Floyd as a major
musical influence alongside Iron Maiden
and, naturally Tool.
They are undoubtedly prog elements to InMe's sound, but their not truly
heinous bowel-gazing variety that were deservedly wiped out by punk
the firs time round. Rather, they take the sense of invention and
disregard for the word 'can't' and apply them to the base of
muscular riffs, raw emotion and brash modern rock noise. The result
is as immediately striking as it is hard to pin down. "It's
rock with a psychedelic streak," says vocalist/guitarist Dave
McPherson, struggling of a handle on his own band's sound.
"It's mellow, melodic, heavy, harsh - there's lots of colours
and load of surprises in there. I think we have our own niche; we're
standing in our own little way."
Completed by bassist Joe Morgan and drummer Simon Taylor, InMe
formed while all three members were still at school, but it wasn't
until earlier this year that things really started to come together.
The first time Kerrang! encountered the band live they had the
startled demeanour of a rabbit caught in headlights, but with a
couple of successful tours under their belts and a debut album imminent
Dave reckons they now have the confidence they need to complete the
picture. And should fame and fortune come knocking at the door
they're ready to answer the call.
"There were a lot of endorphins going wild when we first saw
our video on TV," Dave says. "It felt weird, but it
somehow felt right. I'm not interested in my poster being on bedroom
walls, but i can see it happening the way things are going, and if
that means that more people are listening to our music and we can
play some crazy gigs, then that's alright with me."
My Reply: This
guy's almost getting it right, slowly.

'Neptune'
-Taken from the forthcoming album 'Overgrown Eden'. Writing but a
seemingly endless supply of angst-ridden songs from high-riding
guitars that'll put your mind of Incubus and Nirvana, these boys
have a lot to be cheerful about, even though their lyrics paint a
picture of despair. This Essex trio are destined for greater things,
be sure to check out their single 'UnderDose', available in July
-You'll be glad you did! Trust Us.
