Review 2 9th July 02: 'Feet First' (InMe Gig) -Camden Palace, London. This isn't so much a review, but an account... a little poetic license.
Dave greeted us, despite our untimely welcome and Simon was there also, who soon enough took over the drum kit and gave those drums a good ol' seeing to with his drumsticks! Either way, they soon gave up on their warming up leaving the stage and us three alone with our patience as we waited to see what would happen next. It was only now we averted our attention to the actual place we were in. The hall looked dusty and murky the low dimmed lights, the carpet being non-existent from loads of wear and tear. There were statues reaching up the walls that looked chipped and badly carved, and with peeling wallpapers and wooden floorboards on the level below us, we weren't sure whether we were on a ship headed for America, a gothic castle in Carpathia or some rich but dilapidated Victorian theatre. Wherever we were, it wasn't Kansas anymore! As we did I'm not sure if anyone else had noticed (they certainly didn't mention it), but the floor definitely curved uneasily upwards and squeaked like an unoiled mouse beneath our feet. Soon enough, time went by and inevitably we were thrown outside with the other rejec... I mean fans! Despite the one or two pre-teens who insisted on getting themselves rat-assed on the busy streets of London who kept falling on her ass every time she stood up flashing her tits at passing cars, most of the people there were friendly especially to those dickheads they didn't know (like me). After brief chats and a flirtation going on between Lily and some guys we all scrambled in as if we were starved dogs after the one bone (InMe) given to all of us! We wanted it and we wanted it all for ourselves! We got in; the entire room became more stagnant than ever, with the smell of those already drunk and stoned and oozing body odour. Nevertheless we claimed our stupidly over-priced drinks and lumbered out of the way. We soon decided to bring ourselves over the now dust-infected floorboards to the stage. One by one, monotonous songs screeched through the speakers, causing people to go into a mindless trance. Once or twice a decent song cleared it's way through and redeemed it's predecessors. It wasn't until gone midnight when the lads stepped onto the stage. Us three had forced our way to the front with a pointed stick and were ready for them who wasted no time getting straight into their music. Dave roared his way through the songs Simon performing a lot better than in rehearsal and Joe leaping about the stage in swift rhythmic motion. Behind us people leaped about to the familiar parts of the songs like constipated wiener dogs, and Lily, with her fanaticism over Simon gazed longingly at him the way a cow would stare at an oncoming train. Dave preached his carved lyrics to us all as we watched the boys perform in marvel and splendour, with hedonistic guitar rifts and soothing bass lines, yet menacing and destructive drum power that made our hearts (mine at least) ache but could never depress. In such a way their music completely soothed us all, from the under-aged teenage girls, to the diehard 40yr old rockers! My theory around this band had been going on ever since I've known them, which is longer than most people, but this gig completely confirmed it. The world DOES NOT KNOW what is about to hit it! InMe are going to rock! For the first time that entire night, the entire hall illuminated and the lights phosphoresced the carved images that clung to the walls. The hall came alive with moshers and those just after a good time, I found myself ensnared in the power of Dave’s booming voice, and during the famous 'Underdose', found myself leaping onto the stage, gathered the people to me and leaped onto their fluffy soft hands. I could only imagine the looks on their faces (Dave, Simon and Joe) when they saw me up there on the stage as if to say ‘what the hell is he doing up here?’. As I lay back on the crowd below me, I looked up and saw the large ceiling that stood before my sight, and the curvature on it seemed to purify further their artistic work. The entire stage was gorgeous and the hall, just as good, as the rest of the world slept on that Tuesday night and Wednesday morning, there were a few hundred people still awake and full of energy enjoying the evening. Unlike most bands I’ve seen, they stayed around and chatted to the fans, including myself and my lass, and we said hi to a lady from Music For Nations. They’re as amazing offstage as they were on it with each of them swamped by the young girls, and me asking Simon to give our Lily a big hug! There is no real one word that can be said about these guys or the gig. One thing for certain though, is they rocked, they always have rocked, and they are going to rock! I guess we have to make up a word for ‘great music’ and that would have to be InMeness. To InMenise a song (to make a song better), or an InMeon, which would be the noun equivalent… OK so I might be getting a little silly here, but it’s worth a think over. No word could described their music (possible exception of ‘rocked’) so maybe there needs to be one! Keep rocking, and stay f*cking strong!
