The Hands of Jesus

Daniel Blankenship copyright 2002

Have you ever wondered what the hands of Jesus looked like? The hands that began so small. The hands that were formed within the womb of Mary. The hands that were so delicate as Joseph first held the baby Jesus. They were hands that gripped the finger of his mother as they traveled. Hands that moved as he taught those in the temple. Hands that hammered. Hands callused from hard labor. Hands that touched the leper. Hands that restored the sight of those who were blind. Hands that held the child. Hands that held the whip as he drove people out of the temple. Hands that fed five thousand. Hands that healed. Hands that comforted. Hands that were tied as a flogging began. Hands that carried a cross. Hands that were nailed to a wooden cross. Hands that felt pain. Hands that bled. Hands that saved. Hands that Thomas touched so that he might believe. Hands that redeemed you and me. Hands that took our place.

The hands of Jesus reflect who he is. If you want to learn more about the character of Jesus, read through the gospels and think about what he was doing with his hands. Those hands can comfort us in a way we have never expereinced. The hands of Jesus, how beautiful they are.
